A great big THANK YOU to Silverdale's Cub Scout Troop 4580. Cub Scouts and their families spent an evening picking up branches and pulling weeds at the Poulsbo Cemetery before Memorial Day.
If you are interested in volunteering at the cemetery, a new volunteer group, Friends of the Cemetery is always looking for members. Please contact Harlan Knudson at harlank@olypen.com for more information.
Pavement Maintenance Demonstration Project
The City of Poulsbo will be conducting a Pavement Maintenance Demonstration Project this summer in an effort to address deteriorating neighborhood streets within the City limits. The project is intended to solicit public input, and feedback from City residents is highly encouraged.
Innovative variations of chip seal will be applied to neighborhood streets. Residents along Urdahl Road, 9th Avenue NE, portions of 12th Avenue NE, and portions of Kevos Pond Drive will be the first to have their declining streets addressed. Additionally, residents along Haugen Street, Watland Street, and remaining portions of 12th Avenue NE may be included in this year's project as well.
The methods of chip seal that will be demonstrated allow for minimal construction inconvenience compared to overlay projects and will result in a smoother roadway than traditional chip seals. The new road surface will appear similar to black asphalt and chips will receive an extra layer of oil to keep them in place. This pavement preservation technique is very cost effective compared to other alternatives, and if city residents are in favor of using it in the future, it will allow other neighborhood streets to be improved much sooner. Residents are encouraged to get involved in this demonstration project by becoming familiar with roadway condition before and after the demonstration project.

Liberty Bay and Village Pump Stations Upgrades
The Poulsbo Village and the Liberty Bay pump stations will be upgraded with new pumps and electrical equipment this summer. The City has awarded the construction contract to Harbor Pacific Contractors for $1,472,590.00 as the lowest responsive bidder. Construction is estimated to begin in late May and will be a four to six month project. During construction, the sidewalk in front of the Poulsbo Village pump station will be closed and some trees and landscaping will be removed; however, the trees and landscaping will be restored. There will also be cranes operating to remove and replace the pump station. The existing building will be demolished and a new facility installed. The contractors work area will include a portion of 7th Avenue. Lane closures should be anticipated.
