Mark Your Calendar!


Great for all ages, the Touch-A-Truck Vehicle Expo is taking place on September 21, 2024 from 10 am to noon at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, located at 601 City Center Way. Children will have the opportunity to get up close and explore, climb and touch trucks, emergency response vehicles, heavy machinery, construction vehicles and all sorts of other equipment used for transportation. They’ll also get a chance to meet the personnel who serve and protect the community, including Fire and Police Officers. A hands-on learning experience, visitors will be able to ask questions and experience what the vehicles are truly like. Admission and parking are free. Over 100 indoor vendors featuring an array of treasures will be available for shoppers at the Flea Market and Bazaar being held at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103 Ave. on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 8 am to 3 pm and on Sunday, Aug. 18 from 9 am to 3 pm. Miami Heat Golden Oldies Open Auditions!


The Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, located at 301 NW 103 Ave., will be hosting the Miami Heat’s Golden Oldies Open Auditions for their 2024-2025 dance team on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Registration will be held at the Center starting at 11 am and Auditions will begin at 12:00 pm (noon) at the Center. New this year is an additional day added to the process for preparation – Audition Prep Class on Tuesday, August 20 at 11 am. All participants must be at least 60-years of age by audition date and bring a government issued identification. Studio 18 Art Complex

Opening Reception of New Exhibition


All ages are welcome to attend the opening reception of “The Light You Bring,” a new Studio 18 Art Complex exhibition that will run to October 12, 2024. The opening will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 7 pm to 9 pm at 1101 Poinciana Drive. Admission and parking are free. The exhibition recognizes and celebrates the unique light we bring to the world, inspiring self-discovery and empowerment.

Are you looking for a fun extracurricular activity for your child that will get them out of the house and offer them hands-on learning experiences involving law enforcement & criminal justice? Our PPPD Police Explorers program is recruiting for an upcoming session. Students between the ages of 14 - 19 with a "C" average or above are welcome to join weekly meetings which consist of hands-on training opportunities, exercises, police ride-alongs, and local & state competitions. To join Police Explorers, simply show up to one of the weekly meetings. Starting August 21, Explorers will be meeting each Wednesday at 6 pm outside of the East Police Department Headquarters (9500 Pines Boulevard). No forms or calls ahead are necessary.


Commission Meeting -- Beginning at 5 pm, August 21, the City of Pembroke Pines Commission will hold a Budget Workshop, followed by a Regular Meeting to be held at 6:30 pm or when the Budget Workshop adjourns. It will be held in Commission Chambers, located at 601 City Center Way. The meeting can be viewed in person, and via Channel 78 on Comcast, the city website at www.ppines.com or the city's YouTube channel.


Brain Bus --Join us at the Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center at 301 NW 103 Ave. for the Brain Bus on Monday, August 26 from 9 am to 11 am. The Brain Bus raises awareness of Alzheimer's and other dementias and addresses the benefits of early detection, early diagnosis, brain health and risk reduction. Join us for trivia and interactive brain games, learn the warning signs of Alzheimer's and advancements in research. This is funded in partnership with Elder Affairs Florida. For support, call a 24/7 helpline at 800-272-3900.


Sunset Strings Academy Classes -- Sign up today for the Sunset Strings Academy classes being held at the Pembroke Pines Art & Cultural Center, located at 901 NW 129 Ave. Classes include violin, vocal and guitar lessons. Session C will be held September 16 through December 16, 2024. Classes fill up quickly so please register at SunsetStringsAcademy.com, or if you have questions, please call 561-600-2554.

Artist Applications Being Accepted -- The City of Pembroke Pines invites all artists and crafters to apply to the 26th Annual Art & Music Fest in the Pines, taking place at the Charles F. Dodge City Center, 601 City Center Way, on Saturday, November 2 from 11 am to 6 pm and Sunday, November 3, from Noon to 5 pm. Applications are now available through ZAPP at www.zapplication.org until October 21, 2024. Interested parties are encouraged to apply via ZAPP or by visiting www.ppines.com/artmusicfest.

Summer Symphony Series


All ages are welcome to join The City of Pembroke Pines for a FREE live performance as part of the Summer Symphony Series from the South Florida Symphony Orchestra (SFSO). Admission and parking are free. Seating is limited and provided on a first come first served basis. No tickets are required for entry. The next performance date held at the Charles F. Dodge City Center is on Sunday, August 18, 4 pm to 6 pm – SFSO Woodwinds bring a program for all ages with an introduction to the eclectic world of woodwind instruments through classical selections, culminating with Peter and the Wolf, a delightful tale (with narrator).
