Amos Chess Donates Steinway to Oakland Park
The City of Oakland Park’s new North Andrews Gardens Community Center, which opened in the Fall of 2023, is getting a fantastic addition – a baby grand piano –purchased with a $50,000 gift donated by local resident and developer Amos Chess, Founder & CEO of ATID Investments. The Steinway & Sons piano, which includes a self-playing capability, is best-in-class and was recently purchased from Piano Showcase. Volunteers Unite to Help City Go Green

The Adult Summer Reading Program of 2024 kicks off with a book discussion about Scorched Grace, a Sister Holiday mystery, by Margot Douaihy on Thursday, June 13th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ethel M. Save A Life, Be Water Smart
May is National Water Safety Month. It's a great time to spread drowning prevention awareness. Did you know that Broward County has the highest number of drowning deaths of any county in Florida? Water SMART Broward wants you and your family to be safe around water and prevent drownings. Adult supervision, using barriers around bodies of water (door alarms, locks, self-latching, and self-closing gates and fences), learning to swim, and learning CPR are all great ways to be water-smart and stay safe. County to Launch Small Business Micro-Grant Program
The Board of County Commissioners, in partnership with the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD), is establishing a Small Business Micro-Grant Pilot Program to provide working capital for small businesses located within Broward County. Micro-grants of $2,500 will be available to small businesses and distributed evenly throughout all commission districts on a first come, first served basis. Bulk Pick-Up is Coming to Zone Two Next Week
Oakland Park provides residents with bulk collection service once a month.
Next week, starting Monday, May 13th is the second Monday of the month. The southeast corner of the City will be serviced for bulk trash collection, including the area from 38th Street south, between Federal Highway and NW 9th Avenue, and the area south of Prospect Road, between Dixie Highway and NE 5th Avenue (see area shaded in purple on the enclosed map). Bulk Trash should be placed out between Sunday and 7 a.m. on Monday. Please do not place items out late, as Public Works vehicles will begin bulk collection promptly at 7 a.m. on Monday. Please place only accepted items curbside for bulk collection. Please do not include items such as construction materials or demolition debris. Loose items such as leaves should be bagged and placed on the bulk pile, or they can be placed in waste carts and placed out with your regular waste collection service. Bulk trash collection information, including pick-up schedules and accepted items, can be found on the City website.
Solid Waste Drop-Off
Oakland Park residents can drop off a variety of items, such as most electronics, landscape debris, or household hazardous waste, for FREE on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Broward County Drop-Off Center at 2780 N. Powerline Road in Pompano Beach, FL 33069. Please bring proof of residency. Click here for more information and a list of accepted items.
