Library Board of Trustees: December 21 – 6:00 P.M.

Recap of December 13 Common Council Meetings 

Preceding the Common Council Meeting on Tuesday, December 13, the Committee of the Whole reviewed proposed expenditure adjustments for the Weyenberg Library during Fiscal Year 2023 and via the American Recovery Plan Act. They also reviewed preliminary design plans for expansion of the pavilion facility at Lemke Park. Thereafter, the Council met as the Water Utility Commission to approve a water services agreement with the Village of Thiensville along Freistadt Road and Main Street and approve the terms of an intergovernmental agreement for the provision of water service to the University School of Milwaukee and River Hills. 

 

The Mequon Common Council then met at 7:30 P.M. and began with a public hearing to amend the City Code to establish banquet facilities as a conditional use in the B-2 (Community Commercial), TC (Town Center), and AC (Arrival Corridor) Zoning Districts and conference centers as a conditional use in the B-2, B4 (Business Park) and Ulao Creek Mixed-Use Zoning Districts. These ordinance amendments will now be placed on the Council’s January 10, 2023 agenda for adoption. Following the public hearing, the Common Council acted to:

 

1.     Approve a three-year agreement with Assessment Technologies of Wisconsin LLC in the amount of $480,000, and appointing Michael L. Grota as the Statutory City Assessor through December 31, 2025  

2.     Approve a proposal from R&R Insurance in the amount of $369,541 for the City’s insurance program during Fiscal Year 2023

3.     Approve a three-year contract for general legal services with Weslowski, Reidenbach & Sajdak through December 31, 2025

4.     Release a septic system deed restriction for the property located at 8435 W. Highland Road

5.     Approve a vehicle usage agreement between the City of Mequon, Village of Thiensville, and the Southern Ozaukee Fire & Emergency Services Department in Fiscal Year 2023

6.     Amend the agreement between the City of Milwaukee and the City of Mequon for the purchase of water at wholesale, concerning the relocation of a second water connection point from Granville and County Line Roads to Swan and County Line Roads

7.     Award a contract for the installation of 34 sanitary sewer building lateral clean-outs to Globe Contractors in the amount of $282,921

8.     Award a contract to inspect the installation of the clean-outs and the rehabilitation of sewer laterals to Bloom Companies in the amount of $151,140


A summary of all action taken by the Common Council is available via condensed meeting minutes, or the video broadcast. The Common Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 7:30 P.M. on Tuesday, January 10.    

I-43 North-South Project Update

The I-43 North-South Reconstruction project spanning 14 miles from Silver Spring Drive north to WIS 60 has seen significant progress over the past year. Mequon has realized the construction of a brand-new interchange at Highland Road and the reconstruction of the Donges Bay Road bridge. The long-term full closure of Port Washington Road from Port Washington Lane to County Line Road is anticipated to conclude next week. The long-term full closure of Katherine Drive from Port Washington Road to Zedler Lane is also anticipated to expire next week. Stay up-to-date with construction progress here

Gift Wrapping Fundraiser Benefits Local Organization

The Police Department hosted its 6th Annual Holiday Gift Wrap Fundraiser last Saturday benefitting Advocates of Ozaukee, a shelter and resource organization for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.  The event raised $438 and a check was presented to Executive Director Barb Fisher at the end of the event. Thank you to everyone that stopped by to have their gifts wrapped! Pictured (L) to (R): Barb Fisher, Dispatcher Joel Miksch, Officer Gensrick, Officer Bottoni, and K-9 Djuke.

Winter Wonderland 2022 Draws a Crowd


The 9th Annual Winter Wonderland took place last Sunday afternoon and hundreds of residents showed up to enjoy the festivities. Children had their pictures taken with Santa, decorated cookies and ornaments, enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage ride, and jumped around in a Gingerbread Bounce House. Holiday music was provided by the MTSD Elementary & Middle School Orchestras, the Christ Alone Choir, the Lakeshore & Steffen Choirs, and the Homestead H.S. Choir. Lucas Lenz was the winner of the Kohler Credit Union “Favorite Holiday Tradition Contest” and read his essay at the event. Thank you to the Festivals Committee for organizing another great community event!

Community Blood Drive to Take Place on December 20
