Officer-Involved Critical Incident Investigation Continues


The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently investigating an officer-involved critical incident in Mequon that occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, May 17. At approximately 3:30 P.M., Mequon Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3100 block of Bonniwell Road. When officers arrived, the subject was barricaded in a residence. The subject eventually exited the residence and discharged a firearm toward officers, who then exchanged gunfire and struck the subject. Library Installs New Dropbox

The Frank L. Weyenberg Library recently used ARPA funds to purchase a new Outdoor Book Return. The new dropbox is larger, more secure, easier to use and weather resistant. Many thanks to the staff from the Department of Public Works for installing this great new feature at the Library!

Special Election Set for Assembly District 24 Vacancy


During the Spring Election held on April 4, State Assembly District 24 Representative Dan Knodl was elected to represent State Senate District 8. To fill the vacated Assembly District 24 seat, Governor Tony Evers has called a Special Election for Tuesday, July 18. This will only involve those residents living in Assembly District 24, namely Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 11A and 12 (see ward map here). If a primary is needed, it will take place on Tuesday, June 20. For both elections, voters can report to their normal polling sites between 7:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. Information regarding who is eligible to vote, absentee voting, who is on the ballot and where to vote can be found here, or by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at (262) 236-2912.

Police Department Advisory – Prevention of Vehicle Theft/Entry


Earlier this week, the Mequon Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle on the west side of the City. During this same timeframe the Village of Thiensville experienced several thefts from vehicles and some suspicious activity. The Police Department would like to remind everyone to secure their vehicles by:

 

  • Closing and locking all car doors and windows. 
  • Removing valuables out of your vehicle.
  • Not leaving  keys or key fobs in or near your vehicle, even for one minute.
  • Never leaving a vehicle while it’s running, even at gas pumps.

City Offering Lifeguard Certification; Pool Passes Now on Sale

This year, the Mequon Community Pool is offering lifeguard certification training. The cost is $250 per student and covers materials, training, and certification upon completion. Mequon Community Pool employee lifeguards will receive a $125 reimbursement. The training is being offered on three different sets of dates: May 29 – June 2; June 5 – June 9; and June 12 – June 16 from 9:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. To sign-up for training or for more information, please email or call (262) 236-2950. 

 

In addition, the pool house will begin selling pool passes for the season starting next week on May 22, May 24, May 26, May 29, May 31, and June 2 from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. The soft opening for the Community Pool is June 3 and 4 and the official opening for the season is June 10. Contact the pool about rentals for the 2023 season and stay tuned for food trucks that will be on-site throughout the summer! More information can be found on the City website here or by calling (262) 242-9923.

2023 Business & Citizen of the Year Nominations Sought 


Know a great business or have one? The Mequon-Thiensville Chamber of Commerce and Ozaukee County’s Economic Development Corporation (OED) are both seeking nominations for their 2023 Business of the Year Awards, which will be presented later this fall. The deadline for OED nominations for large, medium, and small businesses is June 2 and can be submitted here. Additionally, the Chamber is also seeking nominations for its Citizen of the Year, as well as its Next Generation Leadership Award. Nomination forms for all three Chamber awards, which are due on Friday, June 16, can be attained here. Please take the time to acknowledge a company and/or an individual that has positively impacted the community through outstanding service and contributions by submitting a nomination form, and encourage friends and colleagues to nominate a business or citizen as well!


Memorial Day Observances to be Held May 29


The Howard J. Schroeder American Legion Post 457 will hold the annual Memorial Day Parade at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, May 29. The parade will travel down Green Bay Road to Main Street, then turn south on Main Street to Mequon City Hall. Ceremonies will take place in front of Mequon City Hall, including an official flag-raising, a rifle salute, and brief comments from dignitaries on the meaning of Memorial Day. Following the ceremony, the public is invited to a complimentary lunch at American Legion Post 457, located at 5060 W. Mequon Road.
