City of Leawood Welcomes New Members

to the Governing Body

During the January 2, 2024, council meeting Mayor Marc E. Elkins and councilmembers Sherrie Gayed, Steven Kaster, and Alan Sunkel were officially sworn in as the newest members of the City of Leawood governing body. We also said a heartfelt goodbye to former Mayor Peggy Dunn and former councilmembers James Azeltine, Andrew Osman, and Jim Rawlings. We thank them again for their combined 70+ years of service to Leawood.

Mayor Elkins expressed his excitement about taking on the role and his eagerness to lead the governing body in serving the residents of Leawood. With their collective expertise and dedication, the new members are poised to positively impact the community.

"I was thrilled to take the Oath of Office as Mayor on January 2. The City Staff has been a huge help in getting me settled into office. Now, I am really excited to get down to the business of leading the Governing Body and serving our residents." - Mayor Marc E. Elkins

Leawood Welcomes Special Guests

The City of Leawood was honored to welcome dignitaries from our sister city, the Gezer Region in Israel. Rotem Yadlin, Mayor of Gezer Regional County, and Carmel Tal, CEO of the Gezer Regional Council, braved our blast of winter weather and were welcomed by Mayor Marc Elkins, former Mayor Peggy Dunn, the Leawood City Council, and the Gezer Region Sister City Committee members. The snow made a beautiful background as the group visited Gezer Park, whose features reflect our sister city relationship.

Mayor Yadlin and CEO Carmel Tal shared updates about the situation in Israel and expressed their gratitude to the City of Leawood for its support.

Email Scam Alert

Recently a handful of Leawood residents received emails coming from an account titled 'Emergency Message System'. Please be assured that neither of the events described occurred. If there were a real emergency, a message would be sent by the Leawood Police Department or Notify JoCo to alert you. Winter Weather

Thanks to our hardworking snow plow crews comprised of Public Works and Parks Maintenace, our city's roads were kept safe during the recent winter storms and freezing temperatures. These dedicated crews worked tirelessly to de-ice and plow city streets and residential roads, responding quickly to ensure the roads were prepared for the slick and icy conditions. Their hard work is greatly appreciated!

If you have any areas in your neighborhood that require attention during future storms or would like to leave feedback for the crews on what worked well this past week, please do so here.
