Construction Project Progress | |
|
Construction Project Progress: Crews continue work on important improvements in the city.
-
Taylor Road Turn Lane: Upon students returning to Chattahoochee High School last month, they have been able to use the new Taylor Road left turn lane into the school. The City worked diligently over the summer to complete the project before the start of the school year. The project is important because by adding the capacity to queue vehicles, it removes turning vehicles from the travel lanes and relieves congestion for residents that live in the neighborhoods off Taylor Road who had been getting stuck in traffic behind students waiting to turn into school.
-
Jones Bridge Road Widening (Waters Road to State Bridge Road): Construction crews have been clearing the area alongside the roadway and grinding the landscape material into mulch which will be hauled away. Silt fence installation continues along the perimeter of the project. Ground preparations have begun for drainage near Waters Road and crews will install stormwater structures.
-
Jones Bridge Road trail & bike lane: Crews have constructed several portions of the trail and widened the eastern side of the roadway in preparation for the bike lane. Sod has been installed in several areas alongside the trail. The project, which fills in two sidewalk gaps along Jones Bridge Road, is expected to be completed later this year. The City is not widening or adding vehicular travel lanes on this northern section of Jones Bridge Road but is excited to be adding the trail for pedestrians and bike lane for cyclists.
-
Barnwell Road at Holcomb Bridge Road Intersection Improvement: The construction crews have been hampered by recent rains but after reinforcing the erosion control barriers they continue to install storm drainage and prepare the area to shift traffic to the elevated section that will be part of the new roadway. Additionally, crews are working through issues for the pedestrian bridge foundations. While initially scheduled to be completed this summer, the project has been delayed due to an unmarked utility, water line relocations and reconnections, and utility relocations. The project is currently tracking to be complete at the end of the year.
