Breaking Down Property Taxes

It’s a great value to live in Grimes. Property taxes have dropped for the past 5 years and are going down again in fiscal year 2025. You’ve seen the city invest in critical infrastructure and upgraded facilities like the new library and soon-to-be-constructed fire station. Your property taxes pay for everything you need when you live in a city including roads, police, and fire services. But how does this all break down? What does this actually cost you? We show you in this video based on the average home in Grimes.

City Budget Update

On April 9th there will be a Special City Council meeting for a public hearing on the proposed property tax amount at 5:30 pm at the Grimes Community Center. During the hearing, anyone can speak about the proposed tax levy. The total city tax rate proposed for fiscal year ‘25 will decrease from the current year of $11.07553 to $10.84518. Learn more about thr budget on this page of our website.
