The Human Services Department hosted its seventh annual Mental Health Awareness art competition and exhibition on May 9, 2024. This year, both Youth and Older Adults were invited to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day and Older Americans Act Month through the theme of “Stand Up, Speak Out". Through drawing, painting, collage, photography, sculpture, and creative writing, the creativity, resiliency, and hopes of Fremont citizens at both ends of the age spectrum were displayed. The annual event has helped to reduce stigma and promote a spirit of community mental health and wellness.
This year, more than 140 submissions from youth and older adults included pieces of fine art, graphic design, digital media, sculpture, and creative writing. The winners and runners-up were honored at an art show displaying their work at Age Well Center Lake Elizabeth, on May 9, 2024.
