Today is World Parkinson's Day. Parkinson’s Disease is one of the most common neurodegenerative disorders, according to the National Library of Medicine. It affects approximately one million Americans and most are diagnosed after the age of 50. Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive disorder that causes tremors, muscle stiffness, slowness, and other movement problems. Research shows that low impact exercise can help manage symptoms of Parkinson’s. The Age Well Center at South Fremont provides activities specifically for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, such as Ping Pong and Bocce Ball. Join one of our classes to manage your wellbeing, meet others, and have some fun! Consult with your doctor to develop a safe exercise program for you. Keep moving and stay connected!
If you experience any of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s Disease, contact your healthcare provider. For more information, call the American Parkinson’s Disease Association at 1-800-4PD-INFO (1-800-473-4636). This line is staffed by nurses, social workers, and health educators.
