City of Davis Water Ratepayers to Save $51.5 Million in Financing Costs for

Regional Water Project

Tens of millions in low interest financing are headed to Yolo County, thanks in large part to the efforts of local water suppliers seeking to minimize cost of service increases for their users. The State Water Resources Control Board authorized a $95.5 Million State Revolving Fund (SRF) loan for Davis' and UC Davis' shares of the regional water project. With a low 1.7 percent interest rate and 30-year term, the loan provides a savings of $36.5 million for the City of Davis when compared to conventional financing. Additionally, the City of Davis has a separately pending application for a $35 million SRF loan with similar terms to fund needed improvements to the city's existing water distribution system. With both loans, City of Davis ratepayers will save a total of $51.5 million in financing costs over the next 30 years. More....

Civic Center Pool Update

This past summer, City staff conducted a water audit of all city pools.  A  leak was detected at the Civic Center pool.  Other City pools did not show signs of leaks.

On October 21st, the City Council directed staff to implement their proposed plan to close the pool the week of October 27th to commence repairs.  The Contractor started work on Wednesday.

Repairs at the Civic Center Pool Complex include:
* Lap pool skimmer suction line and skimmer repairs
* Diving pool skimmer and suction line repairs
* Lap pool main drain pipe repair
* Seal crack in lap pool plaster
* Seal all light niches in both pools
* Repair pipe under decking near dive pool, clean out main line pipe, and insert liner in pipe.

The City is also replacing the filtration system at this time to minimize future closures.  Once the repairs have been completed, staff will reassess the pool water levels to determine if the leaks have been resolved.

The Civic Center Pool Complex was originally constructed in the 1940s and was remodeled in 1982.  Civic Pool is the primary home of Davis Aquatic Masters (DAM), which has a membership of over 550, two full-time employees and two part-time employees. DAM offers 47 practices per week at Civic Center to its membership.  DAM is one of the largest master swim programs in the United States.  Civic Pool is also used each weekday afternoon by Davis Aquadarts (DARTS). The head coaches of DAM and DARTS have been working with city staff to help expedite repairs.
