Mandatory Water Conservation Measures To
Take Effect June 10, 2022 in Alhambra
The City of Alhambra will implement mandatory water conservation measures effective June 10, 2022 to help the state save water amid a historic drought.
 
During the City Council Meeting last night, the Council approved an urgency ordinance and a resolution to increase domestic water conservation.
 
Alhambra’s water supply is stable, but the City is taking action following an Executive Order from Governor Gavin Newsom requiring water agencies to adopt Level 2 of their Water Shortage Contingency Plans.
 
Beginning June 10, 2022:
(A) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water from the city to hose or wash sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking areas to other paved surfaces.
(B) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water from the city to fill or maintain levels in decorative fountains, ponds, lakes, and similar structures unless such structure is equipped with a water recycling system.
(C) No restaurant, hotel, café, or cafeteria, or other public place where food is sold, served, or offered for sale shall serve drinking water from the department unless at the request of its customers.
(D) No customer of the Water Division shall allow water from the city to leak from any facility on his premises or on premises under his control or fail to effect a timely repair of any such leak.
(E) No customer of the Water Division shall cause or allow the use of water from the city to run off any landscape areas into adjoining streets, side-walks, parking lots or alleys due to incorrectly directed or maintained sprinklers or excessive watering.
(F) No customer of the Water Division shall use a hose to wash cars, boats, trailers, buses or other vehicles, or to wash building exteriors or other hard-surfaced areas without an operating shut-off valve;
(G) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water from the City Water Division for landscape watering more often than every three days.
(H) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water for landscape watering between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
(I) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water from the city to refill a swimming pool, spa or hot tub emptied after the commencement of a water shortage period.
(J) No customer of the Water Division shall irrigate ornamental turf on public street medians.
(K) No customer of the Water Division shall use or allow the use of water from the City Water Division for landscape watering activities within 48 hours after measurable precipitation.
(L) No customer of the Water Division shall irrigate non-functional turf at commercial, industrial, and institutional sites, unless, the use of water is not prohibited by this section to the extent necessary to ensure the health of trees and other perennial non-turf plantings or to the extent necessary to address an immediate health and safety need. Non-functional turf is turf that is solely ornamental and not regularly used for human recreational purposes or for civic or community events. Non-functional turf does not include sports fields and turf that is regularly used for human recreational purposes or for civic or community events.
Staff will work with the City's water customers to educate them regarding mandatory conservation. Failure to comply with the provisions could lead to penalties. 
These mandatory conservation measures will be in effect until the State of California declares a water shortage no longer exists.

4th of July Fireworks Safety
The Fourth of July is just a month away. As the holiday approaches, we want to remind you that illegal fireworks are dangerous and irresponsible. Under California Health and Safety Code Fireworks Penalties, Section 12700, any person who violates any provision of the State Fireworks Laws or Regulations is guilty of a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not less than $500, but not to exceed $1,000 or by imprisonment in the county jail for up to one year, or both.
Under California Health and Safety Code Fireworks Penalties, Section 12700(B), a person in possession of unaltered dangerous fireworks in violation of the State Fireworks Law is punishable as a misdemeanor or a public offense with fines ranging from $500 to more than $50,000, depending on the gross weight of unaltered dangerous fireworks in possession.
The only fireworks permitted within the City of Alhambra are those labeled “Safe and Sane,” which can be purchased at retail stands from June 28th - July 4th. Please be responsible and safe!

City of Alhambra Extends Deadline For Small Business Assistance Grant (SBAG) Program

The City of Alhambra has extended the deadline for businesses to apply for the COVID-19 Small Business Assistance Grant (SBAG) Program. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, until funding for the program is completed. Businesses are encouraged to apply now due to limited funding. 
Approximately $150,000 in grants funds are available for the program. Businesses with 25 employees or less (including the owners) are eligible for grant awards of $5,000 to offset costs incurred as a result of COVID-19. Businesses will be subject to eligibility requirements and if approved, grants can be used for the following types of expenses:
·                    Overhead expenses.
·                    Rent and utilities.
·                    Business services to increases capacity to carryout business activities including marketing and promotions.
·                    Payroll expenses including hiring bonuses (within limits).
·                    Business inventory and supplies including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
·                    Day-to-day expenses including maintenance, capital or equipment purchases for business operations

Statewide Primary Election
Voting is underway in the Statewide Primary Election. You can mail in your ballot, drop it off at a vote by mail ballot box (we have two in Alhambra), drop it off at a Vote Center, or go vote in-person at a Vote Center. Free Summer Lunches and Activities
The City of Alhambra's Summer Food Service Program continues until August 5th. Children 18 years and younger can receive free lunch and snacks Monday through Friday at several locations throughout the city. Please click on the flyer for details. The lunches and snacks are served on a first-come, first-served basis. Beginning June 6th, participants can drop in various city parks for free activities, games and crafts.
