Capstone Logistics acquires company

Parsons Roofing Co., with members of the Gwinnett Chamber and City of Peachtree Corners, celebrated an expansion with a ribbon cutting Nov. 15 at their new location at 3100 Medlock Bridge Road in Peachtree Corners. The company recently moved from another site in Peachtree Corners off Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

Parsons Roofing celebrates growth, 10 years

Jay Thornton and Eric Abell, who own and operate Parsons Roofing, will be celebrating 10 years in business in May 2023. It was sort of a strange twist of fate that brought the two together in business. Thornton was a UGA graduate who majored in risk management and insurance. Upon graduation, he visited a friend in Utah who was in the roofing business. When he came home, he decided he wanted to follow suit. So, with the help of a couple of fraternity brothers, he launched a roofing business in 2013.

Jay wanted to use the name "Parsons," since Kathryn Parsons Willis was his grandmother and the Parsons owned the Parsons General Store in downtown Duluth for many years. There were a number of Parsons stores in the area decades ago. Originally, Parsons opened in Lawrenceville as a trading post. It moved to Duluth in 1925 and the Cumming store opened in 1948. The Cumming store closed in 2019. Ms. Willis told Jay he couldn't use the family name until he demonstrated his business was worthy of it.

Capstone Logistics named Top Food Chain provider; acquires transportation company

Capstone Logistics, a leading provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions, acquired the assets of JST Transportation earlier this fall. JST Transportation is a New England-based company that has been in business for 30 years providing final mile delivery services to the region. In November, Capstone Logistics was recognized as a 2022 “Top Food Chain Provider” by Food Chain Digest, the official magazine of Food Shippers of America (FSA). FSA brings together a community of supply chain and logistics professionals from the food and beverage industry and their suppliers to facilitate education and networking opportunities and improve supply chain efficiency. Capstone Logistics is a leading provider of end-to-end supply chain solutions and is headquartered in Technology Park, Peachtree Corners.

Tech startups learn how to grow, attract capital

More than 60 technology startups learned about the process of launching and growing a business during a learning day at Curiosity Lab on Dec. 1. Founders of other startups and venture capitalists served as panelists. The learning day was the first in what will be a quarterly event at Curiosity Lab in Peachtree Corners.
