REDUCE WASTE THIS HALLOWEEN SEASON

Enjoy the Treat, Trash the Wrapper: There’s a trick with your Halloween treats—the plastic wrapper can’t be recycled. Considering the hundreds of thousands of pounds of Halloween candy sold this season, it’s scary to think about all those wrappers. Please remember, wrappers are contaminants in the recycling and must be placed in the gray trash bin.

Recycle Your Pumpkin: Plain and carved pumpkins (mold and all) can be tossed in your Green Bin—no bag required. Remember to remove candles or lights before disposing. Painted or artificial pumpkins are not allowed in the Green Bin and must be thrown in the trash.

COMMUNITY SURVEY: FOLSOM BOULEVARD BICYCLE/PEDESTRIAN OVERCROSSING

We want to hear what you think!

The City of Folsom Parks & Recreation Department has begun a feasibility study for a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Folsom Boulevard, between Blue Ravine Road and Glenn Drive. The goal is to identify a safe, convenient, cost-effective active transportation connection across Folsom Boulevard, linking transit, neighborhoods, businesses, and recreational areas.

Earlier this year, the city conducted an initial online community survey and two focus group meetings with stakeholders. Based on input received, the bridge alternatives for the overcrossing have been refined to two options, and aesthetic bridge design concepts have been developed. We want to hear what you think—the online survey is available through October 30. Contact Senior Trails Planner Brett Bollinger at bbollinger@folsom.ca.us with questions.

BRING FALL COLOR TO YOUR YARD

As the autumn season blankets our city in red, yellow, and orange hues, it's the perfect time to introduce these stunning trees to your yard:

  • Shumard Oak (Quercus shumardii). Witness the grandeur of rusty red leaves this fall! Thriving in our Mediterranean climate, the Shumard Oak requires moderate watering, reaching 50-65 feet in height and providing welcome shade in summer.
  • Autum Gold Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba 'Autumn Gold'). A living relic from dinosaur times, this tree boasts beautiful fan-shaped yellow leaves in autumn. Though it grows slowly, its eventual 45-50 feet stature offers exceptional summer shade.
  • Shantung Maple (Acer truncatum). Showcasing a vibrant red-orange fall display, this fast-growing, low water-use tree reaches 25-30 feet and adds cooling shade during summer.
  • Keith Davey Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis ‘Keith Davey’). Highly drought-tolerant and a stunning autumn showstopper with shades from bright orange to 'fire engine' red! Perfect for moderate-sized yards at a mature size of about 35 feet tall and wide.

Folsom residents can get free landscape assessment and up to 10 free shade trees delivered to a home or business, thanks to a partnership with the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Learn more
