This Saturday, we’re thrilled to debut a brand-new addition to the Farmers Market—Operation Breakthrough's food truck, BYTES with Soul! Featuring delicious breakfast dishes and more, this food truck is not just about great food—it’s also a project led by the talented teen students from Operation Breakthrough’s Ignition Lab. With “big dreams and bright futures” under the guidance of their Entrepreneurship Instructor, these students have been hard at work preparing the truck and crafting mouth-watering menu items including the 1971 Starter (chicken & waffle with sweet potato spread), BOWL OF SOUL (multi-grain rice with mushrooms, spinach, baked apple cubes, strawberries, sweet potato vinaigrette and croutons), Touchdown 87 (pancake sausage & egg sandwich), and much more! Come by and support their incredible efforts while enjoying a tasty morning or midday meal.

Keep your eyes peeled this weekend at the Farmers Market—you might just spot someone who looks a little out of place… or even out of this century!
And if you see them, don’t hesitate to say “HUZZAH!” for your chance to win free tickets to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival! This fun, family-friendly event runs weekends (and Labor Day) through October 14.
So, get ready for a little medieval magic at the market and maybe score a ticket to the festivities!

Fresh Idea: Autumn Orchard Salad | |
|
As the crisp autumn air rolls in, there's no better time to embrace the rich, earthy flavors of the season with a refreshing fall salad. This recipe combines the best of fall orchard fruit —think crisp apples, sweet pears, and hearty greens—with the perfect balance of textures and flavors. Whether you’re looking for a light lunch or a colorful side dish for your next gathering, this fall salad is both nourishing and delicious. Drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette, it’s a celebration of all things autumn in every bite.
Toss together:
½ pound of greens (spinach, massaged kale, chard, lettuce, etc.)
1 pear, thinly sliced
1 apple, thinly sliced
1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
3 tablespoons toasted slivered almonds
1/3 cup dried cranberries
3 slices of cooked bacon, chopped
Add dressing:
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon honey (optional for sweetness)
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
To make dressing:
In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the balsamic vinegar, Dijon mustard, honey, and minced garlic until well combined.
Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while continuously whisking until the vinaigrette is emulsified and smooth.
Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
Taste and adjust seasoning or sweetness, if necessary.

Sweetened with cane sugar, these sodas are already in high demand. While it’s tough to choose a favorite, experts at KC Soda recommend the Honey Blonde Root Beer. Flavored with real honey, this lighter version of traditional root beer offers a smooth finish.
Stop by the store to sample the entire line. They’re refreshing when chilled or used as mixers for creative cocktails. You can even transform your favorite into a custom float from Fountain City Scoops next door.
