Construction for the voter-approved 2-way Gray Street Conversion Project began on August 5, 2024, on the north side of Gray Street at Porter Avenue. Over the course of one year, work will take place between University Boulevard and Porter Avenue. Work will be carried out by a contractor and administered through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Work will modify the roadway configuration from the current one-way westbound configuration, to two-way traffic both east and westbound. This will require new roadway striping, reconfiguration of angled parking along the street, and new signalization equipment at intersections as well as the BNSF railroad crossing. The project will also incorporate streetscape elements similar to those being implemented along Porter Avenue and Main Street. Learn more here.

PUBLIC UTILITIES

UTILITIES REPORT: Lake Thunderbird current level is 1039.15, which is approximately 2 inches above the full mark of 1039.00 MSL. The City of Norman is fortunate to have full lake levels to deal with the current high temperatures. The average daily water demand for the week slightly increased to 20.90 MGD (Million Gallons per Day) as compared to last week’s daily water demand of 20.11 MGD. The usage is normal for this time of year.

In March 2024, the City of Norman joined in partnership with EightTwenty to increase education about solar energy while allowing for accelerated installation of these systems among interested community members. A group purchasing element of the initiative allows for reduced costs through August 31, 2024. Learn more at NormanSolarInitiative.com!
