The Latest from Doug
I want to start with our recent warm weather. As many of us know, North Carolina weather can change very quickly. So, as we begin enjoying the outdoor concerts, festivals and the outdoor dining opportunities Fayetteville has to offer, I ask that you are mindful about the weather. I would hate that a great night out is ruined by the unexpected threat of severe weather. Earth Day is this Saturday and there are a couple ways to celebrate. Visit the City Market happening downtown at the Fayetteville History Museum 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. where you can shop for local produce. Fayetteville PWC, Sustainable Sandhills and our park rangers will also be in attendance to share eco-friendly facts. You can also honor Mother Nature by registering for Fayetteville Beautiful. This event is Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is an opportunity to for friends and neighbors to spend a couple hours giving back to the community you live in and spruce things up in your area.
On behalf of the City, I want to personally congratulate the 14 new members of the Fayetteville Fire Department. We had a wonderful graduation ceremony to celebrate their accomplishment on Thursday. I also want to thank not just them, but all the First Responders throughout our beautiful City as I know they will help keep all of us safe and secure in the years to come. Our Fire Department offers a variety of great outreach programs that everyone should know about. One I’d like to mention for everyone to take advantage of is the “Smoke Alarm Project.” This is an opportunity for you to call your local fire station and request for them to either check or install smoke alarms in your residence to keep you safe. Visit FayettevilleNC.gov/fire to learn more this program and more.
One last thing, don’t forget to mark those calendars for the upcoming Dogwood Festival in Downtown Fayetteville scheduled for April 27 – 30. There will be live entertainment, activities the entire family to enjoy, delicious food, and classic community favorites. I want to make sure all our residents are prepared for what is coming next in Fayetteville.
As the old saying goes...”Knowing is half the battle.” I hope you had a great week and an even better weekend.
Best,
Doug
