As we step into the holiday season, we're excited to share some highlights and events.


Don't miss our upcoming Community Workshop, Help Create a Plan for San Leandro's Economy, on Saturday, November 18th (event details below.) It's an open invitation for all of you to contribute your valuable insights and ideas towards creating a brighter future for San Leandro. Your input matters, and this workshop is a chance to make a difference.


The San Leandro Public Library has an array of events planned to keep you and your family entertained and informed. Don't forget to check out what's happening at the library this month.


A reminder for all our residents: City Council meetings now begin at 7 p.m. Keep an eye out for the icons next to certain items in this update, representing the City Council's top priorities: Public Safety, Infrastructure, and Housing and Homelessness. These icons will help you quickly identify the key areas of focus in improving San Leandro.

Community Workshop: Help Create a Plan for San Leandro's Economy

WHERE: Boys and Girls Club, 2200 San Leandro Blvd


Come share your thoughts on priorities and goals for the future of San Leandro’s economy. Attendees will have opportunities to provide feedback, learn about San Leandro’s economy, and engage with City staff and the team preparing the strategy. Possible conversation topics include:

  • How is the local economy faring since COVID-19?
  • What are opportunities for growth and improvement?
  • How can the City of San Leandro better serve businesses, residents, and workers?


Your feedback will be used to help create San Leandro’s next economic development strategy for job and business growth, retail and restaurants, commercial development, and other important issues.

Spanish and Cantonese interpretations will be available.

Gardening with Nature: Homegrown Habitats

Saturday, November 11, 2023

Come by the Manor Branch Library on Nov 11 for a presentation and Q&A session with gardening expert Jennifer Dirking. Jennifer will cover how to create a bee, butterfly, and bird restaurant. The native garden at Manor Library will be open for patio tours, and a limited supply of native seeds will be available for giveaways. The program will run in rain or shine. Hosted by Homegrown Habitats San Leandro and supported by the Office of Sustainability and Manor Branch Library.

Importance of Air Quality Monitoring

Learn about the importance of air quality and its impact on our collective health and well-being. In this session, we will be reviewing air quality monitoring equipment (available through the Library of Things) and how data can be used to implement solutions for improving air quality.

180-Unit Town Hall Square Project Approved at 1199 E. 14th Street



On September 7, 2023, the Board of Zoning Adjustment approved developer BEAM’s 180-unit multi-family residential project at 1199 E. 14th Street – the 1.2-acre site commonly referred to as “Town Hall Square.” The project will create much-needed housing for the community that incorporates sustainable features and tenant amenities and bring short- and long-term economic benefits to the community.

San Leandro Police Department Swearing In & Recognition Ceremony - September 21, 2023

Weekend Squads + Flock Safety staying busy with a community safety hat trick!


On November 4th, your Day Squad and Night Squad teams were alerted to stolen vehicles driving in our community by Flock Safety cameras. Day Squad was directed to an occupied stolen vehicle, and the driver fled on foot after seeing police. After a foot pursuit, the driver was arrested. Night Squad, in two different incidents, was directed to stolen vehicles driving in our community. Officers located the vehicles, arrested the drivers, and took an illegal firearm off the streets.

LIBRARY

All San Leandro Public Library Branches will be closed on Friday, November 10, in observance of the Veteran’s Day Holiday. The Main and Manor Branch libraries will be open on Saturday, November 11, and Sunday, November 12, with regular library hours.

Family Fun Night: Yo-Yo Show

Champion Ernest Kahn shares his personal story in yoyoing, a brief history of the yo-yo, and gives a world-class yo-yo performance! Doors open at 6:20 p.m. All ages welcome.
