Sandhill Crane Festival Conservation Award Recipient
Lodi Sandhill Crane Association has selected Trevor Carlson as the recipient of its 2023 Sandhill Crane Festival Conservation Award. The award will be presented at the opening reception for this year’s Festival on Friday, November 3rd, at Lodi’s Hutchins Street Square.
Growing up hunting with his brothers, cousins and uncles, Trevor Carlson developed a close relationship with the outdoors. Born and raised in Stockton, he graduated from St. Mary’s High School. After attending the University of San Diego, Trevor returned home where he worked, and learned, under the mentorship of his grandfather, Dino Cortopassi, creator of the 750-acre Black Hole Habitat and co- founder, with wife Joan, of the Wetlands Preservation Foundation.
Now Trevor finds himself responsible for managing the people, habitats and farming interests that comprise and sustain part of Cortopassi’s rich legacy. He notes that, “Individuals and organizations can play a role in ensuring a healthy Delta environment for future generations of people ... and wildlife. All of us must work together to continue to educate the public and to inform decision makers.
Following the Friday reception, Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival activities take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, November 4th and 5th, and are free and open to the public.
