Lodi 360 - Matt Rempfer, Wastewater Operations Supervisor

Since 1923, the City of Lodi has been providing wastewater collection and treatment services to the community. The cornerstone of the City’s program, the White Slough Water Pollution Control Facility (White Slough) was originally constructed in 1966. It is located west of I-5, just south of Hwy 12, and "you might recognize it by that familiar smell."

Matt Rempfer is the Wastewater Operations Supervisor, and he is passionate about his work and overseeing a team of operators to achieve the water quality standards required for the protection of the environmentally sensitive Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

Throughout the years, White Slough has been expanded and improved to meet the increasingly stringent environmental protection standards in an economically sound manner. In 2005, the City modified the treatment process to include tertiary filtration and ultraviolet light disinfection, which replaces chlorine gas. Ultraviolet disinfection is safer for the environment and City staff working at the facility.

Great Work Officer Deanda

A Leroy Nichols Elementary School student had his bicycle stolen recently. He rides his bike to and from school every day. Lodi Police Department School Resource Officer Kristina Deanda contacted our local Walmart and told them about the situation. They were more than happy to donate a bike to this young man.

We are proud of our staff and our community to brighten this student's day!

Music in the Park

We wrapped up Music in the Park this week with The Dohnutz!  It was another beautiful evening at Hutchins Street Square and once again friends and family filled the lawn as they enjoyed live music under the shade of the redwoods! We want to thank the community for coming out to support this music series, enjoying the beautiful outdoor space and always making sure to pick up the park after the event as well.  We look forward to spending the summer evenings together again next year!

Coastal Cleanup Day - September 23

We invite you to join us on September 23 at Lodi Lake to take part in the State's largest volunteer event, California Coastal Cleanup Day. Families, friends, coworkers, scout troops, school groups, service clubs, and individuals come together to celebrate and share their appreciation of California's fabulous coast and waterways. This year marks the 20th year of a Coastal Cleanup at Lodi Lake, and will be limited to the first 150 people who pre-register.

The event will be on Saturday, September 23 from 9am-Noon. Registration tables will open at 8am. Pre-register here.

Additionally, the City of Lodi requires a signed Liability Release form, available here.

Tree Lodi

Tree Lodi is off to a great start towards a successful year, and in particular, in its plans for the new Shade Tree Program funded by City Council for Fiscal Year 24 and 25.

Tree suppliers are all on board to help meet this year’s milestone of reaching at least 200 customers to receive 600 trees and deliver all trees by the end of May 2024.

Additionally, they are working to update their website and social media to provide more information for the public on their program. For Tree Lodi, providing outstanding customer service is the overarching goal serving to guide both its educational and residential tree planting services in the coming year.

Economic Development Attends National Conference

Economic Development staff attended the 2023 National Brownfields Conference August 8-August 11. Over 2000 participants from across the United States, Puerto Rico and American Samoa attended. Initial conversations with Environmental Protection Agency and the California Land Recycling Center have begun to determine Lodi’s eligibility for additional grant funding which goes beyond environmental assessment and reuse planning funding received in FY 15 and FY 20. Staff applied for and was granted a one year extension on the existing FY 20 grant for the purpose of expending remaining grant funds.
