Economic Vitality Strategy Community Meetings

Upcoming Opportunities to Give Your Feedback

The City's development of an Economic Vitality Strategy is underway. This Strategy will be a guiding document that helps accomplish the City’s vision for a welcoming, vibrant city that plans intentionally and leads regionally to create livable, sustainable neighborhoods, access to nature and open spaces, and a strong innovation-driven local economy.

The City’s consultant recently completed several focus group interviews and a landscape assessment of Mountain View. The City will host two community meetings seeking input on the vision and high-level goals for the Economic Vitality Strategy.

Schedule Meetings:

  • In-person meeting on Thursday, March 9 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Historic Adobe Building, 157 Moffett Blvd. Spanish translation available.
  • Virtual meeting on Wednesday, March 15, 6 - 8 p.m. Spanish translation available.

Both meetings will start with a brief presentation on the insights gleaned from focus group interviews, followed by an open house format. The open house format will allow the community to engage with City staff and the consultant to provide feedback and input into the vision and goals of the Economic Vitality Strategy.

Shoreline Wildlife Management Plan

Shoreline at Mountain View is a unique area due to habitat preservation efforts that enable the presence of 35 special-status species. Building upon these efforts, the Mountain View City Council will review the Shoreline Wildlife Management Plan on Tuesday, March 14. After an extensive public input process, the plan was reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday, Feb. 15 and was forwarded to the City Council with a recommendation to accept the plan.

The plan will cover the distinctive wildlife and habitats found at Shoreline at Mountain View, Charleston Retention Basin and the North Bayshore Egret Rookery, and will:

  1. Examine and consolidate the various state and federal regulations and codes that govern native and special-status species wildlife and their habitats.
  2. Make recommendations on projects and best practices for habitat management.

Working in tandem with the goals and priorities of other plans in the North Bayshore Area, such as the Burrowing Owl Preservation Plan, Post Closure Maintenance Plan and Sea Level Rise study, the Shoreline Wildlife Management Plan guides the maintenance activities and lists projects that will continue to make Shoreline a special place.

Coming Soon: New City of Mountain View Website

Preparations are underway for a redesigned City website to debut this spring. In addition to revamping the main site, the website redesign project also features new specialized websites for Economic Development, Mountain View Public Library and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

The new website aims to enhance the City’s ability to connect and share information with the community through a visually appealing site that is user-centric with intuitive navigation, improved search functionality, advanced email notification customization, and responsive design that automatically adapts to various devices, including desktop, tablet and mobile.

Within the coming weeks, the public will be invited to participate in testing the beta website. The beta testing will include an online survey, on-location testing at the Mountain View Community Center and the Library, and focus groups. Staff will assess the user feedback and make enhancements, when possible, in preparation for launching the new website. Be on the lookout for details on how to participate in the beta testing later this month.

Fix it Free at Repair Café

Join us for the next Repair Café on Saturday, March 18, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Mountain View Senior Center (266 Escuela Ave.).

Typical items include small appliances, electronics, clothing (repairs only, no alterations), luggage, kitchen items, lamps, toys and more.

Follow these tips:

  • Bring associated spare/replacement parts, owner’s manuals, instructions, or product boxes with information.
  • Be sure that items requiring power are charged or have good batteries.

Repair Café will prioritize one item per customer but may be able to repair additional items depending on volunteer availability. Last item check-in at 2:30 p.m. For more information, visit RepairCafeMV.org.

Check Out the New Stevens Creek Trail Medallions

The Friends of Stevens Creek Trail created medallions for placement on trailhead placards and at nearby posts to aid in wayfinding after entering the trail corridor. The Friends provided and installed the medallions under the guidance of City Staff. The medallions can now be seen from the Dale-Heatherstone trailhead to the Tidal Marsh entrance at Shoreline.

Medallion planning is now underway in Cupertino and Sunnyvale. Eventually, they will mark all 25 miles of Stevens Creek Trail, providing trail users with a common symbol seen everywhere in the regional facility.
