Emergency Home Repair Assistance for Storm Damage

Garland's Home Repair Programs are intended to assist low and moderate-income homeowners who can't afford to make needed repairs to their homes.


This program is for emergency repairs only caused by the May 28 storm such as repairing electrical boxes due to falling trees, roof repair for persons without homeowners’ insurance, and other storm related repairs. For more information see: https://garlandtx.gov/421/Garland-Home-Repair-Program

Staff Update On Storm Recovery & Power Restoration Efforts

2024 Juneteenth Celebration - June 15th in Downtown Garland

Come celebrate freedom and unity at the City of Garland's annual Juneteenth event on Saturday, June 15th from 5 to 9 p.m.

New Senior Activity Center Update & Design Renderings

Item 5: Garland Senior Activity Center Project Update. This briefing will provide Council with updates about the Senior Center design, cost estimate, and project timeline. As noted above, this presentation will provide the first glimpse of the renderings and designs, as well as some possible alternatives and additions. Potential cost increases for the possible exterior upgrades and additional amenities should be noted. Item 6: Review of Yard Sale Ordinance -- Residential, Institutions, Multifamily. Rick Barker, Director of Code Compliance, will provide a briefing about City Ordinances relating to yard sales. View Presentation.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:


Item 2(d) [Consent Agenda]: Consider Bid for $280,000 for Garland Corridors and Gateways Proposal. These are landscape architecture services needed to revitalize Garland gateways, medians, and rights of way areas throughout the city. [This is something we asked for on council some time ago, so it's exciting to see this finally happening!]


Item 2(e) [Consent Agenda]: Consider Bid for $3,277,143 to Replace Roof and Elevator at Central Library. View more details.


Item 5: Consider Approval of a Declaration of Disaster Ordinance. While Mayor LeMay already signed a declaration of a Local State of Disaster due to the extensive damage caused by Tuesday's storm several days ago--which will help the community have access to federal recovery assistance if it becomes available--the entire City Council formally approves it at the next regular meeting. Item 6: North Texas Municipal Water District Appointment. Council is requested to consider appointing a representative to the North Texas Municipal Water District Board for a two-year term beginning June 4, 2024. View more details.


Item 7(a): Consider Budget Amendment to Cover Additional Maintenance and Repair Costs at the Olinger and Spencer Power Plants. View more details.


Item 8(a): Consider Zoning Request to Allow U-Haul Leasing Use at 2502, 2504 & 2550 McCree Rd. (District 5). The site currently contains an existing building that was previously used for U-Haul truck repair for the last 55 years. In an effort to modernize the overall site, the repair shop has been relocated and the applicant wishes to use the remaining building as a U-Haul truck and trailer share The Plan Commission recommended approval of this request with conditions, and staff also recommended approval.
