March has arrived
-- and winter is hanging around, too. Thanks to everyone for their patience as we continue to plow the snowy streets and sidewalks. Check out the video below to see how Red Wing keeps the snow under control.

When the Snowing Get's Tough...
It was officially the snowiest February on record and City workers have been busy, busy, busy keeping our roadways clear. There’s so much snow that simply plowing it isn’t enough. We often have to remove it and haul it away. So where do we put all that snow? Find out in this edition of City 101.

Building Blocks for Red Wing's Future
An element of Red Wing's past is about to become part of its future. During the last City Council meeting, the Council approved a permit allowing Keller-Baartman Properties III, LLC, to renovate the old Hancock/St. Joseph Elementary School at 469 Twelfth Street into a childcare center. When converted, the Building Blocks Childcare & Learning Center will be able to host up to 175 children, with ages ranging from infancy to twelve years.

Beyond Par for the Course
Exciting changes are coming to our city, including the Red Wing Golf Course. The City Council approved a permit that will allow an addition to the Clubhouse and an expansion of the existing parking lot. The upper floor of the Clubhouse addition will be made available as an event and wedding venue for year-round use. The changes are expected to be completed in the fall of 2019.

Congratulations, Graduates!
Citizen's Academy Class of 2019
Red Wing has some new alumni in town--the Police Department's Citizen's Academy class of 2019 just graduated. Over the course of six weeks, these Red Wing residents got an in-depth look at law enforcement, learning about everything from K-9 demonstrations and use-of-force simulations, to investigative techniques and traffic enforcement laws. Want to be part of the class of 2020? Keep an eye on
our website
and the
RWPD Facebook page
for details on next year's course.

The change to single-sort recycling will be a big change to the community, and now the Solid Waste Campus has just the vehicle for the job. The City Council recently approved the acquisition of an automated side loader, a brand-new recycling truck that will replace not just one or two but
four
vehicles currently in use. That translates to less vehicle maintenance, fewer trucks on the roads, and fewer emissions for a more efficient recycling pick-up process. Residents can expect single-sort recycling (and the new truck) to roll out in the fall of 2019.

Leaving a Legacy
The Glen A. Hoepner Memorial Donation
You may not have known him personally, but you'll notice the legacy he left at the Red Wing Public Library. In January of 2018, the library received a generous donation in memory of Red Wing resident Glen A. Hoepner. Much of the donation went toward updating equipment, such as a new color printer that visitors are welcome to use, new computer monitors, and additional shelving. Outside the library, in Sally's Garden, you can enjoy a new memorial bench and plaque, installed in honor of Glen.

Miss the Trash Talking?
We've got you covered
What a success! Last week's Talking Less Trash event saw an incredible turnout of residents to learn more about Red Wing's current and upcoming recycling program. Attendees got the scoop on the new program, what to expect, and even the date that single-sort will become our city's new method of recycling.
