Red Wing Earth Week
April 20-27

Red Wing residents have weighed in on what they want to see in the new City Council Administrator. The Council Administrator is the City's top position, overseeing every department including Police, Fire, Public Works, Engineering, and all the rest. The Council Administrator also works closely with council members and ensures their vision for the City is followed. The current Council Administrator, Kay Kuhlmann, has worked hard in her position for 25 years and is retiring early next year. Last month, more than 300 residents answered an online survey to say what qualities they believe are important for the next person to fill those big shoes. You can read the survey's summary report here. Last night, council members voted to start the search for candidates, which will include internal and external applicants. More details to come in the following weeks.

Storms Drains Aren't Dumpsters
April showers bring stormwater running into our storm drains, which in turn lead to the river. Just stormwater entering those drains is no problem, but when that stormwater picks up litter, yard debris, pesticides, and other contaminants, it's definitely a problem for our environment. Help us keep our storm drains clean and put a lid on stormwater pollution.

City Engineer and Engineering Director Jay Owens has been a key part of many of Red Wing's biggest projects over the last few decades. Those projects mean he's pretty well known in our community, but later this month he'll be moving on to a new project – and a new position – away from the City of Red Wing. To show our gratitude to Jay for all he accomplished during his City career, there will be a reception before the April 22 City Council meeting, starting at 5 p.m. outside of the Council Chambers. All are invited to wish Jay well on his new chapter.
