THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH WELCOMES YOU
|
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
As constituent members of the Anglican Communion in the United States, we are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.
We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. We have a legacy of inclusion, aspiring to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church.
Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.
We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

FROM THE BISHOP: PRAY FOR MAUI
|
My dear Siblings in Christ Jesus,
With the news of the fires on the islands of Maui and Hawaiʻi (“the Big Island”), I ask your prayers.
Lahaina was devastated. Historic Holy Innocents Church is on Front Street where the fire very quickly swept into old Lahaina town. Those old buildings made out of wood, went up in flames quickly. Some of the buildings destroyed date back to the days of whaling and when the town was the seat of the monarchy (early 1800s). Likely, this includes our church, Holy Innocents, based on an aerial photo sent to the office. The Sanctuary, vicarage, preschool and office appear to be completely gone (as does the public elementary school next door). Whole Lahaina neighborhoods are gone. Because of evacuations, downed landlines and cell towers, and the chaos of the situation, no one other than first responders are allowed into Lahaina, and we have had no first hand confirmation of the losses.
The clergy have reported in as safe.
I urge you to pray: A PRAYER FOR THOSE FACING WILDFIRES.
We will share more as information becomes available.
Yours faithfully,
Bob
The Right Reverend Robert L. Fitzpatrick
(Pronouns: he, him, his)

CHRIST MEMORIAL AND EPISCOPAL DIOCESE OF HAWAI'I MOBILIZE
FOR MAUI RELIEF EFFORTS
| |
|
We are still in shock over the devastating fire Maui has just endured. The Helen Mitsui Shared Blessings Thrift Shop is in a unique position to help. We have sent boxes of requested items already and are sending more today.
I am so grateful to Steve and Susan Wright for leading this initiative. They have spent hours in addition to their normal Thrift Shop work pulling blankets, sleeping bags, pillows, toiletries, clothes, shoes and other requested items together to ship. Thank you!
If you feel you can make a monetary donation the following information is from Bishop Robert Fitzpatrick.
Many have asked how you can help through the Diocese with immediate response for relief efforts on Maui.
The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaiʻi is coordinating immediate Diocesan relief efforts to the Lāhaina Fire disaster through the Diocese’s A CUP OF COLD WATER (ACCW) (a separately incorporated subsidiary of the Diocese that serves the houseless on Maui).
Make an online donation through the Bishop’s Pastoral Fund on the website of the Episcopal Diocese of Hawaiʻi (the funds will be gathered and sent to ACCW).
OR
Mail checks to:
A Cup of Cold Water
2140 Main St.
Wailuku, HI 96793
This is to help with immediate needs. The recovery efforts will take a very long time.
Blessings,
Rebecca Hullum

EPISCOPAL CHURCH PRESUMED
DESTROYED IN DEADLY WILDFIRES ON
HAWAI'I'S MAUI ISLAND
| |
|
By Shireen Korkzan
Episcopal News Service
Wildfires have killed at least 55 people since Aug. 8 and destroyed hundreds of buildings on the Hawaiʻian island of Maui, likely including an Episcopal church, prompting the evacuation of thousands of people.
The worst of the wildfires has caused widespread damage to the island’s western community of Lahaina — which has a population of nearly 13,000 — where Holy Innocents Episcopal Church had stood since 1927. Its vicar, the Rev. Bruce DeGooyer, said in a comment on Facebook that the church was presumably leveled by the fires, based on photos he had seen of the area, though he hadn’t yet been able to inspect the church himself as of Aug. 9.
This story will be updated as Episcopal News Service receives more details and is able to reach Episcopal leaders in Hawaiʻi.
An Aug. 9 post on Holy Innocents’ Facebook page asked parishioners to share how they are doing. So far, it has received more than 100 offers of prayer and condolences from both local residents and people living throughout the continental U.S. who’ve visited the church before.
Holy Innocents was founded in the late 19th century, and its first parish was built in 1872. In 1927, the church moved into a new and bigger building with a vicarage and parish hall. That remained the parish’s home until it succumbed to this week’s wildfire — the deadliest in Hawaiʻi’s history. The congregation was in the middle of a capital campaign to raise money for renovations when the wildfires started.

NIGHT BLESSING
By: Leslie Scoopmire
(Night time is beautiful; a bedtime prayer for children)
The moon and stars dance overhead
To let us know it’s time for bed.
Night holds us in a safe embrace,
So we may rest in this soft place.
Thank you, dear God, for this past day
With time to learn and time to play.
Thank you for friends, and family too,
God bless them all, and bless us too!
God, guide our dreams, for your love’s sake,
Bless all with peace until we wake.
Jesus, stay near, with angels bright,
And guard us through this blessed Night.

A Prayer:
Magnificent Holy Father.
I stand before you at this altar. So many have given you more.
I may not have much I can offer. Yet what I have is truly yours.
This is my offering, dear Lord.
This is my offering to You, God.
Your offering enables us to maintain worship, prayer and study during this time. Help us continue to provide a beautiful, flourishing, and safe "Sanctuary for the Spirit" at our historic and faithful church on Kaua'i.
Change to Automated Giving: Thank you to those of you who automate your giving and have a plan to support your church. Your consistent, planned generosity makes it possible for us to budget and dream responsibly. Want to change to automated giving? It makes life easy, especially if you travel.
Live off island? If you have a prayer intention or would like to pray for those on our prayer list, email our office. To be part of the church collective means we all share in the cost of being a church. We want our church to have inspiring worship; pastoral care for those in need; beautiful church grounds; programs to learn and grow; and tools to reach out to those who are seeking a closer relationship with God. See the different ways you can share your gifts, on our Giving page HERE.

PRAYER REQUESTS THIS WEEK
|
Let us pray for our own needs and those of others. We remember especially those on our prayer list. Healing of body, mind and spirit for: Sylas, Sid, Jo, Charlyn, Erin, Wyatt, the Wills family, Rick, Marcie, Miranda, Dan, Niles, Robbie, Elise, Jane, Amelia, Margaret, Gordon, Dale, Webb, David, Linda, David, Helen, Tony, Anthony, Penny, Dwight, Tommy, Jennifer, Matthew, Katie and the leadership and people of Ukraine. We pray also for the people of Russia who wish for peace and an end to the war. And for the people and land of Maui and the Big Island, especially Dannette and all who have been displaced by the fires, and for emergency personnel who are working to end the fires and care for the people. For those who have lost their lives in the wildfires, for their families and those who know and love them.
We pray that you will bring people together in worship. Enliven your church and bless our musician, our clergy and lay leadership. We pray for our sibling Episcopal congregations on Kauai: St John and St Pauls, St Michael & All Angels, and All Saints, and for all churches on the North Shore. We pray for our own congregation of Christ Memorial, Kilauea for those present, online and absent - that all of us together may be united in your ministry.
Are there others? Send a prayer list request to christmemorialkilauea@gmail.com
