CATHEDRAL DEDICATION ANNIVERSARY Wednesday, December 22 marks 114 years since St. James Cathedral was dedicated in 1907, and 27 years since it was rededicated in 1994. On Wednesday, December 22, Archbishop Etienne will join us for the 12:10pm Mass during which we will formally bless and dedicate the Cathedral Columbarium.
HOLY FAMILY SUNDAY Next Sunday, December 26, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family. Masses will be at 8:00am, 10:00am, and 12 Noon, as usual, with Vespers at 4:00pm. The Cathedral will close following Vespers. Please note: There will be no 5:30pm evening Mass on Sunday, December 26.
CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY The Parish Office will be closed for the holiday on Friday, December 24 and Monday, December 27. The Cathedral Kitchen will be open and serving as usual on December 24 and 27.
BECOMING CATHOLIC How do I become Catholic? What must I do? How do I get started? There will be a Zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 7:00pm to answer these questions and talk about the process of becoming Catholic. Information, John Marquez, 206-654-4640, jmarquez@stjames-cathedral.org.
WELCOME BACK is an invitation to take another look at the Catholic Church for those who, for one reason or another, have been away. If you yourself – or someone you know – is disillusioned, longing for community, or hungry for something more, Welcome Back might be just the right place to safely express these concerns. A new six week series will begin Thursday, January 20. Information, John Simpson, 206-654-4658 or jsimpson@stjames-cathedral.org.
HEALTHY BODY, HEALTHY MIND, HEALTHY PLANET Save the date! Thursday, January 20 from 7-8pm via Zoom. Are you looking to make a positive change in the New Year? If you would like to learn about practical, effective ways to enhance your health and the health of the planet, come join our “Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Healthy Planet” program. Information, Blake Steller, blsteller@gmail.com.
VOLUNTEER TUTORS FOR IMMIGRANTS Do you have a few hours each week to help an immigrant learn English? No prior tutoring or teaching experience necessary. All tutoring is currently done remotely. Immigrant Assistance staff provide ongoing support. Information, Sayuko Setvik, ssetvik@stjames-cathedral.org.
VOLUNTEER SOMALI INTERPRETER NEEDED Do you speak Somali or know someone who does? Immigrant Assistance is seeking a Somali speaker who can help with communication between staff, tutors, and students. Information, Sayuko Setvik, ssetvik@stjames-cathedral.org.
TEEN, YOUNG ADULT AND ADULT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FAITH FRIENDS MINISTRY The program’s goal is to give children and teens ages 7- 18 with physical, cognitive and intellectual disabilities access to the parish community, social events, and faith formation. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the Faith Friends program is the Faith Peer program. Faith Peers are teens and young adults who have chosen to live out their discipleship and share some of their personal time in dedication and service to the goals of the program. Adult volunteers are needed for the Adult Leadership team. Training for Faith Mentors, Faith Peers and Adult Leadership is ongoing. Information, faithfriends@stjames-cathedral.org or https://stjames-faithfriends.weebly.com.
