ELLIE HOLCOMB

Says Motherhood Deepened Her Understanding of God’s Love

CCM singer and author Ellie Holcomb says motherhood has given her a fresh outlook on life and a deeper understanding of God’s unconditional love. Holcomb is the mother of three young children and the author of three children’s books, each with a companion EP of original music. Recently, she released two projects geared toward adults: a new Psalms-based album, "All of My Days," and an expanded edition of her bestselling devotional, "Fighting Words."

Her latest song, "Be Okay," with Lauren Daigle is out now.

Ellie will be at Hebron Church in Dacula with Matthew West and Caleb & Kelsey for a benefit concert for The Haven at Hebron, a home for young, single, pregnant women who need residential care throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond!

Holcomb toured full-time with her husband’s band, Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors before her first child was born.

“One of my favorite things about being a mom is that you get to see the world again -- through their eyes,” she told Crosswalk Headlines. “Everything feels new and fresh. It’s been so good for me as a grown-up.”

She said motherhood has also given her a new perspective on God’s love and grace.

“We are, first and foremost, beloved sons and daughters of the most high God,” she said. “And so, being a mom has helped me remember that before I’m even a mom, I’m God’s daughter, and He’s going to take such good care of me, and He’s going to take such good care of my kids, too. Man, what a freedom to know: We’re all just God’s kids, trying to make our way back home again. I am grateful for the freedom to be a kid, to mess up.”

Her attitude about her children, she said, is a mirror of God’s perspective on His children: “I don’t want you to be feeling like you have to get everything right all the time. You can come as you are to me, and it’s given me freedom to come as I am into the presence of God.”

Seph Schlueter Celebrates The Impact Of His No. 1 Song ‘Counting My Blessings’

Singer/songwriter Seph Schlueter stormed onto the scene just one year ago releasing his international breakout song of the year “Counting My Blessings.” Making a name for himself with this catchy, joy-filled letter of thanks to a God who never fails, this song has exploded in the U.S. and Brazil. Co-written with Schlueter, Jonathan Gamble, and Jordan Sapp the song has moved on to become a No. 1 radio single on all four Christian formats. Its still #6 on this week's Billboard CCM charts.

“This song is about gratitude and that’s so universal,” shares Seph Schlueter. “Everyone can relate to gratitude. In a world where there’s so much negativity and complaining and fear, to see a song blowing up about gratitude is so important.”

BRANDON LAKE, ELEVATION WORSHIP's Chris Brown reflect on No. 1 hit song 'Praise!' Topping Billboard Charts

For Over 6 Months

Christian singer Brandon Lake says his wife was the only person who thought his collaboration with Elevation Worship and Chandler Moore for the live recording of the song "Praise!" would turn into a hit.

"We kind of did it being silly,” said Elevation Worship’s Chris Brown about the song that has been ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Christian Songs chart for 24 weeks.

Lake, who said, “I don’t think anybody believed in 'Praise!,' except for my wife,” said he expected the song to "bomb."

At the live recording of "Praise!" and other songs in front of a packed audience at one of Elevation Church's campuses in North Carolina, the worship singer said that he wanted it to be the last song performed that night because "[if] it tanks ... it bombs ... we at least had two hours of worship. No one’s gonna care, it’s energetic, they won’t pay attention.”

He continued: “The whole place just goes bananas. Like, if you haven’t seen the video, you’ve got to watch the video (See below). And my wife was like, ‘I told you — there’s something about that song.’”

Brown concurred, adding, “it (the audience) went crazy.”

LYSA TERKEURST

"Forgiving What You Can't Forget"

(Lysa TerKeurst's "Forgiving What You Can't Forget: How to Move On, Make Peace with Painful Memories, and Create a Life That’s Beautiful Again" is the

#1 book this month on the

Christian Booksellers'Top 50 list.).

Q: Forgiveness is obviously really a hard thing to do. It's something that a lot of people struggle to do and then to write a book about it, it would be extra challenging. I know about the book writing process and even that in itself is challenging.

You choose the path of forgiveness, which I know is a huge question to start with? And then how did you choose to write about it?

LT: Sadly, I have to say, this message of forgiveness chose me and kind of chased me down. And, I remember one of the early writing days my team showed up and they were ready to hear some chapters that I'd written. And, I had not written the chapters that I needed to write...because, as I started to sit down and put pen to paper, I felt so much resistance in my heart. And, so, instead of writing good, helpful chapters, I started making lists of all the reasons why forgiveness was impossible.

And, I listed out things like, well, the other person hasn't said they're sorry and I don't know if I'm done hurting over this. And, if I forgive this, isn't that me saying that what happened doesn't matter and it very much does matter. Is forgiveness me betraying my own feelings? Is it me saying that I wasn't really hurt when the hurt that has been unleashed in my life is not just something I suffered one day...but, I'm still suffering because of it every day since.

And then, when what happened is unchangeable,..is it even forgivable? And, I had this misunderstanding that I thought the Bible said that, in order to forgive, you have to forget. But, I couldn't forget. Therefore, I felt like I couldn't forgive.

So, what we decided to do is... instead of me writing on forgiveness...first, we decided to hit the pause button on the book. And, I studied what the Bible actually says and doesn't say about forgiveness. And we spent over a thousand hours studying.

'So many questions,

so few answers': The Nelon's daughter's faith endures amid tragic plane crash of Atlanta gospel group

A tragic plane crash that killed three members of a Grammy-nominated gospel group last week has left family members reeling.

The incident occurred on July 26, when singers Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter, Amber Nelon Kistler, died in a private plane crash in Wyoming, according to the group’s management company, Gaither Music.

“One of the best-loved Gospel music families in America, The Nelons were involved in a tragic, fatal plane crash on Friday afternoon on their way to join the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska,” the company shared in a Facebook statement.

Others who lost their lives in the crash were the Nelons’ assistant and family friend, Melodi Hodges, Amber’s husband, Nathan Kistler, the pilot, Larry Haynie, and his wife, Melissa Haynie.

Unfortunately, there were no survivors.

Autumn Nelon Streetman – the younger daughter of Kelly and Jason – and her husband, Jamie Streetman, were not on the plane but were notified of the horrific crash when they arrived in Seattle, which was where the group’s cruise was set to depart.

“They were brought to the hotel where artists were gathered with Bill and Gloria Gaither to pray, sing and embrace them in their grief, pledging to support them in whatever needs arise,” Gaither Music’s statement continued.

Instilling God-Given Qualities into Your Children

By Jim Daly,

President of Focus on the Family

I loved every stage of raising my two boys, Trent and Troy. I enjoyed them as babies. I enjoyed their energy as little boys. I enjoyed watching them grow up and become young, godly men. My greatest honor and privilege in life has been to be their dad. I’m sure you feel the same way about your children.

Nevertheless, I’m sure you’d also agree that some seasons of parenting can be challenging. Raising kids well is inconvenient. Life is always busy. You’re exhausted. And you probably don’t always respond in the moment the way you wish you would.

We all know that none of us is perfect, but embracing life’s messiness can be tough. If parenting remained convenient and clean, no growth or insight would occur.

As author and homeschooling mom Melissa Hannigan, my guest on Focus on the Family with Jim Daly, says, “Messiness is not only sticky countertops and glitter on the floor; it encompasses messy conversations with sticky subjects and complicated answers.”

6 Myths About Retirement

Listen, we all want to build wealth and have the retirement of our dreams. But it’s not going to happen if we’re getting sidetracked by all the naysayers and the misinformation swirling around.

There are myths about retirement everywhere. Maybe your angry broke uncle thinks “the little man can’t get ahead” or your buddy shared some sketchy financial “advice” on social media (stick to funny dance videos, TikTok). No matter where they come from, those myths and lies could keep you from taking the steps you need to take to secure your retirement future.

So, get ready, because, today, we’re going to bust the top six retirement myths so you can start building the retirement of your dreams—right now.

Myth #1: I’ll Live Off Social Security Income - This is a common one . . . but relying on the government to take care of you in retirement is dumb with a capital D. Here’s the reality: Living off Social Security will only lead to social insecurity.

The problem is, there’s a huge gap between what future retirees think they’re going to receive from Social Security and what they’re actually going to get.

Right now, retirees receive an average monthly income of $1,657 from Social Security. That’s about $19,900 per year. That’s barely enough to keep the lights on and put food on the table, let alone actually enjoy a comfortable retirement! And yet, a recent poll found that nearly 1 out of 5 Americans (17%) don’t expect to have any source of retirement income beyond Social Security. Yikes.
