Seventh Sunday of Easter

12 May 2024

Hello Old Donation!

May is off and running! Easter season is always so full of energy and excitement. Tonight, we do not have a Wednesday Night program in part because the French Play opens in Tucker Hall and will run through Saturday. Next week, we will start a two-part series on Wednesday night looking at how to prepare well for death. Details below.

Tomorrow, we will have our regular Thursday Eucharist and Bible Study in the morning. In the evening, we hope you’ll join us for a special Choral Evensong celebrating the Feast of the Ascension. It will be a night of beautiful music set to the service of Evening Prayer with light incense. The service is at 7:00pm in the Church.

This Saturday, we could still need more youth to travel with Dan Ries and our youth and family minister, Bethanny Sammons, to clear out a woman’s backyard with Faith Works. They will meet at the church at 8am and return by 3pm. Let Bethanny know if you’d like to attend!

Also this Saturday, we will celebrate the life of Kathy Kline with a Jimmy Buffet inspired party. It starts at noon in the Great Hall. Come celebrate with Gary Kline as we remember his wife, Kathy.

On Sunday, we will be back to our regular schedule with Bob+ in the 8am and 10:30am services in the Church. I will be in the Gathering and Paws, Prayers & Praise. Adult Forum at 9:30am will continue to look at how we contextualize the Gospel in our own lives and remain open to the movement of the Spirit across difference.

See you soon!

Ascension Day Evensong

Tomorrow, Thursday, 9 May 7:00pm in the Church.

The occasion on which the risen Christ is taken into heaven after appearing to his followers for forty days (Acts 1:1-11, Mk 16:19). The Ascension marks the conclusion of Jesus' post-resurrection appearances. It is the final elevation of his human nature to divine glory and the near presence of God. The Ascension is affirmed by the Nicene and Apostles' Creeds. The Ascension is celebrated on Ascension Day, the Thursday that is the fortieth day of the Easter season. It is a principal feast of the church year in the Episcopal Church.

Faith Works Coalition

THIS Saturday, 11 May - 8:00am-3:00pm

We need MORE youth (MS and older) to assist with clean-up and junk removal. This is a great opportunity for our youth and can also count as service hours. Participants should wear long pants, sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves. Email Bethanny to let her know you will participate.

Historic Traditions

Saturday, 9:30am in Canterbury. Special guest, Dr. David Scott from the Eastern Shore talking about Thomas Savage. All are welcome!

Celebrating Kathy Kline

This Saturday, 11 May, 12:00noon in the Great Hall. Join Gary Kline to celebrate his wife, Kathy's, life - Jimmy Buffett style!

Pentecost - 19 May

On Pentecost we read the Gospel simultaneously in many different languages. Which foreign language can you read aloud? Let us know so we can send you the proper translation. This is one of the highlights of our church year - not to be missed! Please be part of this special tradition for our 10:30am services. PS - even if you don't respond, Gretchen has a list and you'll be receiving your copy by email!

June Bell Ringer

All June Bell Ringer articles are now due. No more than 150 words, unformatted. Please send your article to Gretchen for it to be included.

Wednesday Night Program

15 & 22 May 6:00pm supper, 6:30pm program. We will have a two-part series on preparing for death. That may sound morbid, but as Christians death no longer holds a sting, and the truth is that many of us find ourselves woefully underprepared for death, meaning that we leave the ones we love scrambling to tie up loose ends and honor us well. This two-part series will lead us through the Burial rites and help us make decisions about services, burial, estate planning, and advance directives.

This event is for adults only. Tickets will be on sale THIS Sunday, 12 May after church services. Tickets are $15 each and include a beverage, appetizers, and one raffle ticket. Please e-mail us if you have any questions or to make a donation!

Midday Munchers

Thursday, 23 May 12:30pm at Dockside on Shore Drive. We'll plan to sit outside if the weather is nice. RSVP by Wednesday 22 May to CJ Godoy
