Summer Reading Program!

Reading is Out of This World

June 27 - September 3
Grades PreK - 6th

Join Wilton Library this summer for our
Reading is Out of This World! Summer Reading Program. Children can register on Wandoo Reader, an online reading log to keep track of their reading anywhere they go as long as they have an internet connection. By reading, logging, and completing challenges, kids will be eligible for benchmark prizes throughout the summer. The Reading is Out of This World! program stimulates kids' imaginations with wonderful stories and fun activities while learning about space. Drop-in story times, drop-in activities, large-group enrichment and entertainment programs and animal visits are just some of the events planned though August 24. Think of us as your free stay-at-home summer camp experience. The summer reading program is funded by John and Susan Steitz, with STEAM programs made possible by the Amadeo Family. Reading prizes are sponsored by the following local area businesses: Sky Zone, Goldenberry, Party Zoom, Subway, Toy Chest, Beardsley Zoo, and Scoops. The reading portion of the program runs from June 27 - September 3.

Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time to go back to school. Harry Potter is always happy to leave the Dursleys and go back to Hogwarts. This year, you can go, too! At Wilton Library, we will be hosting a fundraiser commemorating 21 years of Harry Potter. This program is for children in grades 3-5. Children will be sorted into the four houses and attend a variety of magical classes and fun activities. They will search for magical artifacts guarded by fearsome creatures; learn about the Science of Divinations from Professor Trelawney, and much more. There will also be a visit with the Head Dragon Wrangler from House Slytherin!  Lunch donated by Wilton's own Pinocchio Pizza. Advance registration required in person; $50 per child.

The Boggart FIghts Back
Mrs. Keogh recommends The Boggart Fights Back by Susan Cooper

In this delightful story by Newbery Award Winner Susan Cooper two mischievous shape shifting Scottish creatures defeat an obnoxious American businessman.

The third of the series about the Boggart of Castle Keep begins with the Boggart and his cousin Nessie (yes, that Nessie, he can shape shift to plesiosaur form) are wakened from their long sleep by two visiting children. The children, Allie and Jay Cameron are visiting their Scottish grandfather, Angus. Angus' store and the beautiful old Castle near it are threatened by William Trout, a bombastic and unscrupulous real estate developer. Trout comes across as almost cartoonish, but the plot rapidly shows that he is anti-environment and has very little regard for people or the law.

The Boggart, his cousin, Jay and Allie and their grandfather and parents, with some help from some nightmare creatures from Scotland's folklore, thwart William Trout's greedy plans. It is seldom that a children's story villain so thoroughly and satisfyingly gets his just deserves.
I liked this story so much that I re-read the first two books in the series The Boggart and The Boggart and the Monster.
