Policy Corner: Legislative Update
The Iowa legislature has been moving bills along at what feels like a record pace this year. Since opening day on January 9, the Department of Health and Human Services has been monitoring a plethora of bills that could potentially impact programs, including child support services.

The Decorah and Marshalltown Offices recently piloted a “Regional Enforcement Monthly Meeting”. They decided to pull all Enforcement Case Managers together to discuss best practices, tips/tricks and discuss difficult case or process questions. This started shortly after the first Pre-Enforcement Outreach Report came out, so Case Managers could work through questions on this new process together. Case managers were able to discuss ideas that might help them build better and more productive relationships with our customers. Also talking through their approach with customers who may be struggling to balance their support obligations along with other life matters. These meetings also provided an opportunity for newer case managers to ask questions and gain more process knowledge.
These conversations went so well that all offices in the Central Region plan to do a quarterly enforcement meeting for all Enforcement Case Managers starting in March.
Our goal is to provide an opportunity for case managers to discuss process questions, share tips/tricks, continue to build relationships within our teams, and also better serve our customers.
