Did you know Child & Family Center has an outpatient Substance Use Program – 'Pathways to Recovery'?

Earlier this year, C&FC was honored to receive the "Community Impact Award" from the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health Substance Abuse Prevention and Control for going above and beyond for our community.

We sat down with Juan Castro, our Lead Clinician in the Pathways to Recovery Program to learn more about him and the program”.

Tell us about yourself and the work you do

I have been SUD Counselor for over twenty years, providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance use disorder. I obtained my SUD Counselor Certification from East Los Angeles College and have received CADC II Certification. I have worked in all levels of treatment including detox, residential and outpatient treatment. My roles have included Program Manager, Lead Counselor and Intake Coordinator. I joined Child and Family Center in May 2020.

With a deep passion for helping others, I have developed a compassionate and nonjudgmental approach to recovery, creating a safe and trusting environment for clients. In addition to my direct work with clients, I actively collaborate with other healthcare professionals to promote holistic approaches to substance use disorder recovery. I am dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families affected by substance use disorder and am honored to be a part of their recovery journey.

What can clients expect from the Pathways for Recovery program?

Clients will receive individual and group counseling, relapse prevention, after care, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and crisis intervention.

What can the community do to help support those in recovery?

Participating in community events such as recovery walks, awareness rallies, virtual webinars and old-fashioned potlucks and barbecues. All these events share the common goal of encouraging people from every walk of life to address the ongoing need for a worldwide expansion treatment, prevention, and recovery resources.

Also, if you have a family member struggling with substance use, family support is very important. Supporting them could look like intervening in a crisis, finding treatment options and helping them get into treatment and/or providing necessary information about their life and substance use that will help the treatment professionals provide the right type of care.

Join us on October 14th for our annual Purple Palooza 5k Walk to End Domestic Violence! You can be a sponsor of the event, a walker or pull together a team of walkers! Funds raised are critical to support Child & Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program. We provide domestic violence services for individuals who are in abusive relationships and their children. Our services are free and include safety, shelter and support for survivors. Child & Family Center is the only Domestic Violence Shelter in the Santa Clarita Valley.
