Rineer September

Chestnut Hill Farmers' Market

Saturday, September 16th Hours: 9 am-12 noon

Last week Concord grapes were spotted at Rineer Family Farms, along with the first sweet potatoes (big ones and little ones) of the season! Plums and raspberries continue to sweeten the Rineer Family Farms stand, but this is likely the last big week for their peaches!

Sweet potatoes have not yet arrived at Taproot Farm, but are coming soon. What we did see at Taproot Farm last week were habanada peppers, a non-spicy variety of the habanero, but with that delicious smoky flavor. Scoville rating: 0. So, if you are heat-aversive but crave that kind of taste, these are the peppers for you. And if you like some heat, Taproot Farm also had spicy heirloom Torno chiles from Durango, Mexico. Maybe you'll find these chiles for sale somewhere else in our region, but we seriously doubt it.

Every week now, it seems, Fahnestock Fruit Farm has more and more apples for sale. So many of our customers go out of their way to make sure that they purchase Fahnestock Fruit Farm apples,

calling them "the best."

Fahnestock Fruit Farm peaches (also very popular) are expected to be available through the end of the month.

And, omnivores, don't forget to check out the farm-raised meat available at both Canter Hill Farm and Rineer Family Farms. Meat doesn't get any better than farm raised.

This week's rotating vendors are:

Dressler Estate

Award-winning dry, wine-like ciders

made exclusively with local apples

(3rd Saturday)

Haven Farmstead

Artisanal cheese crafted using high-quality local milk. Food columnist Craig Laban wrote a delectable review of Haven's OK Bloomer.

(1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays)

Lynda's Ladys Honey

In addition to their honey, check out their other items too, like food-grade wood conditioner made with beeswax.

(3rd Saturday)

Mediterra Olive Oil

Olive oil, vinegar, and other Mediterranean items. Treat yourself to a bottle of their ultra-high polyphenol organic olive oil. Yes, it's extra good for you but, also, its aroma will make you swoon.

(3rd Saturday)

Phyllodelphia

Greek food! Among other things, they are super popular for their (special family recipe) spanakopita. Last time they were at our market, a customer gushed this praise: "It's just amazing. Everything just comes together with it. I've never had spanakopita as good as this."

Link to a mouthwatering photo here.

(1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays)

Note: The Pasta Lab usually attends 1st and 3rd Saturdays but is unable to attend this week. We look forward to their return on October 7th.
