It's August. It's hot. Outdoor water play is the answer! Little ones can splash in the wading pool and paint with water. Big kids can make paper boats to sail in a homemade "river" and put a wave in a bottle.

It's the birthday of Orville and Katherine Wright! Learn about these and other important people in the history of aviation and make some flying objects of your own!

Chesapeake Children's Museum will provide crafts and activities for children at the August 5 outdoor concert at Quiet Waters Park.

The Clones of Funk will have everyone on the dance floor from 6-8 pm.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for those who just want to soak in the vibe.

Hummingbirds beat their wings at a rate of 53 times per second! This makes a sound like a hum.

Hummingbirds are attracted to flowers for the sweet nectar and are therefore responsible for pollinating plants in our food supply! Besides nectar from flowers and bird feeders, they also eat beetles, ants, aphids, gnats, mosquitoes, and wasps.

In Maryland we typically see these small birds, which weigh about the same as a penny, from May through September, at which time they fly off to the warmer climate of Mexico and Central America.
