"TAKE ACTION NOW/NEW" ARTICLES & LINKS

School Communication System:

St. Gabriel Parish School has a communication system connected to our database that allows us to text, email, and contact families in an efficient manner. We will be using this system when we need to send out messages to all families, certain grade-level families, teachers/staff, etc. This system is particularly helpful in emergency situations and when school is canceled due to weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances.

If you are new to the school you will need to opt in to this program once you receive the first message. After that, you will receive all texts, emails, and phone calls without needing to opt in. The system is set to use the contact information in our system. If you would like to add or change contact information to the message system, please contact the school office and let Linda know.

Bussing:

If your family is within our bussing area and would like to receive bussing service this school year, please contact Riteway Bus Company (rosegrulkowski@goriteway.com) if you have not already done so. Riteway is in the process of creating bus routes and would like to complete the routes as soon as possible. If you do not notify them of your wishes, your family will not be added to the bussing routes. Please list your child(ren)'s name and whether they will be riding AM, PM, or both. You can reach Riteway directly at 262-677-8739 and speak with Patty, Rose, or AJ. Please also notify St. Gabriel School's office so we can plan accordingly.

Back-To-School Packets:

The "Welcome Back Packets" were mailed on Monday, August 12. Please be sure to review and fill out the necessary documents and bring them back to the Meet and Greet on August 26.

Library Volunteers Needed!

Library volunteers are needed on Wednesdays for library day. We have two shifts every Wednesday that will help our volunteer Librarian, Katie Martinez.

  • The morning shift (4K and Grade 1) goes from 8:15 a.m. to 11:05 a.m. (It's OK if a volunteer needs to come later due to Mass attendance.)
  • The afternoon shift (Grades 5K, 2, 3, 4, and 5) goes from noon to 3 p.m.

We could have as many as four people sign up for any one shift, though technically two would work out fine.

No experience is necessary just a passion to help our school and students.

ALL volunteers working with students must complete Safeguarding for God's Children's class. See below.

Safe Environment Class (Safeguarding for God's Children)

Staffing Updates:

  • We are excited to share with everyone that Sr. Therese Marie will be teaching Spanish for us this upcoming school year. Her focus areas of study at UW Milwaukee were Math and ESL (English as a Second Language). Sr. Therese Marie speaks fluent Spanish and has experience teaching Spanish-speaking ESL students of various ages at schools in Milwaukee. In addition, we will be expanding our Spanish program to include all students in grades 1-8. We will focus on exposing students in grades 1-3 to the Spanish language and culture through music, games, and various activities. Spanish in grades 4-8 will include a more structured curriculum and graded coursework.

  • Finding a qualified music teacher has been a bit more challenging. We are currently working with a staffing company who has assured us that they will be able to provide us with a music teacher for next year. Stay tuned for more details.

Meet Our New School Secretary/Administrative Assistant:

Mrs. Linda Schuh has been in the office for several weeks so you may have already met her. She has been working with Mrs. Fassbender and me this summer to prepare for the beginning of the school year. Please be patient and understanding as she learns everyone’s face and name. Do not be offended if she answers the door via the intercom to see who you are and how she can help you before she unlocks the door to the school. All questions and attendance information may be sent to her at lschuh@sgabriel.org. While Mrs. Fassbender will be helping us with the transition, she will no longer be answering emails.

School Commission & Home and School Openings:

Due to several member terms ending this year, we have openings on both the SAC (School Advisory Commission) and HSA (Home & School Association). Please see the links below for more information regarding each of these committees. If you have any questions or are interested in joining either of these teams, please contact the school office or email Kim Lestina at (klestina@sgabriel.org).

School Spirit Store:

Our spirit wear store will be opening soon. We will send out the link via email and post it on our website as soon as it is available. Please remember, St. Gabriel spirit wear from the Spirit Store may be worn over a red or white polo or turtleneck top. Other brand logos (ie: Nike, Adidas, etc) are not allowed. St. Gabriel t-shirts and athletic shorts may be worn for gym only, for students in grades 5-8 but are not required.

$crip Certificates:

$crip certificates are the perfect gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and thank yous. During the summer, $crip will only be available to purchase after the weekend Masses, or online.

Interested in learning more about buying online certificates using the RAISE RIGHT app? Please contact Laura Rogacki in the Parish Office at (262)628-1141 or lrogacki@stgabrielhubertus.org for the program code.

Already have an account with RaiseRight? Online orders will be filled on Mondays and available to pick up after the weekend Masses. For any questions about the $crip program, please email Finance Manager, Laura Rogacki.

Volunteers Needed for $crip Program Outreach:

We are seeking ONE or TWO MORE enthusiastic volunteers to assist in contacting local businesses to explore their interest in participating in our $crip program. Your help is crucial in expanding our network and fostering community support.

If you are willing to contribute your time, please reach out to Connie Helm, Director of Development, at the Parish Business Office. You can contact her by phone at (262) 628-1141 or via email at chelm@stgabrielhubertus.org. Your participation is greatly appreciated!

Box Tops:

Last year from July 2023 to June 2024, we raised $360.30 just by scanning shopping receipts with products that contain Box Tops.

So far from July 1, 2024 - present we have raised $37.70 from the Box Tops program. Box Tops are worth $.10 each and they add up fast! Twice a year, our school receives a check to help pay for whatever we need - equipment, supplies, or experiences the kids love! Did you know you can now connect your Walmart account for even easier fundraising? You can earn cash for your school without scanning receipts! See the app for more details.

IVolunteer:

Per the update to the handbook regarding Volunteers, pg 12

VOLUNTEERS (4140) Volunteer service is a core value of a Catholic parish and school community and should be both encouraged and publicly acknowledged. The administration at St. Gabriel parish and school strongly believes that parental involvement and participation in school activities is a vital way to have a direct positive impact on your child’s school experience. Volunteers enable our school to run more smoothly, operate within our annual budget, and offer more family-friendly events. So that St. Gabriel can achieve our goals, we ask that each family volunteer at least 10-15 hours during the school year. Gratitude and appreciation for your volunteerism cannot be given with something of value-in-kind for your service. By definition, a volunteer is someone who gives services without any expressed or implied promise of remuneration.

Make sure to stop at the committee tables at Parent's Night to sign up early OR

NOTE - Adults who work exclusively with other adults do not need to undergo safeguarding measures. However, if a minor is involved at any point, safeguarding protocols as outlined by the Archdiocese must be followed. All volunteers who volunteer during school hours are required to be certified in the Archdiocese Safe Guarding All of God's Family Class. You can visit this webpage for more details.

We encourage every committee who has volunteer opportunities to email Nikki Packee their needs to this email nikki.packee@stgabrielhubertus.org. Please reach out, should you have questions, or visit this URL to volunteer!!! #manyhandsmakeworklight
