"A Sense of Accomplishment”
October just handed me a gift…. “a sense of accomplishment” for a goal that I had been working on diligently which was our recent FSA event. We were grateful to have the opportunity to partner with Lynne McNees, President of ISPA and several ISPA Board Members to support our FSA Ocean Reef Club event. For days, weeks and months my key mission was to set our format, focus on planning, and get each detail locked in….dot every “i” and cross every “t”. In my private psyche it had to be picture-perfect. Together with our FSA dream team (aka FSAngels), we worked hard on endless tasks in preparation and coordination, as it usually is with most events. But this one was special. We were enthusiastic to collaborate with ISPA. We’ve always looked up to ISPA as the “Mother-ship” of our Spa Industry and eager to join forces. Education was organized by ISPA with Patrick Huey, ISPA Chairman of the Board, taking the lead as our featured speaker and moderator for a Town Hall Exchange, which included a panel of FSA and ISPA Board Members. The education sessions were thought-provoking, providing insight and solutions concerning current spa challenges and was highly appreciated by our spa audience. The anticipation of uniting once again with our spa community is what gave me a sense of purpose which motivated and inspired me. The end result was worth every minute. This could not have been accomplished without the combined efforts of our FSA team, ISPA’s involvement and the support of our Vendor Partners and spa attendees. Everything fell right into place and I could not be more appreciative. When reaching a goal you’ve been working hard towards ends up the way you hoped, the feeling is heartening.
Another October gift and load off my chest, literally, was receiving a normal test result from my recent annual mammography. October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am always beholden to hear the words "you’re good, all-clear, no change" as the result. Losing my mother and grandmother to Breast Cancer has kept me vigilant and proactive when it comes to prevention and awareness. Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer suffered by women. October remains unwavering in support of Breast Cancer Awareness for the purpose of sharing information and encouraging women to pay attention. Awareness is extremely important as early detection, often through screening, can catch the disease when it is most treatable. It is also critical for women to take control of their health by educating them about prevention. Whether its word of mouth, charity donations or getting involved with organizations, we can help save lives. Awareness is powerful and finding a cure is worth fighting for! “Early Detection For Your Protection”

Ilana

"Voice-It" Spa Talk with Mitchell
Silly Wabbit!
|
|
I recently sent this photo to my staff in our Spa Community WhatsApp chat. Below it I wrote, “Always take your job professionally, but not too seriously.” I wanted to reach beyond their job descriptions and connect to a deeper tether within my team members. I was not motivated to demonstrate that “I am one of them,” which is fundamentally untrue. However, it was important for me to reinforce that “we are one.” One team, one human species, a collection of real people doing the best they can. Humor always helped things makes sense to me. It still drives me to inspire, teach, learn and connect with my family of employees without an air of seriousness. In so transformative a time as we are all now experiencing, curiosity will be our saving grace, along with a good sense of humor.
Thaa, thaa, that’s all folks!
Stay Cheerful! Mitch

Jackie Tamminga, National Director of Sales and Revenue at Exhales Spas, Exhale
January 1st, 2021 Jackie received a call from a longtime friend and businessman. They both have been in the health, fitness and wellness industry 30 plus years. Jackie was semi-retired when receiving the call asking if she was ready to go back to work and that she would be running sales and revenue for many spas!
Jackie began her career at just 17 years old, selling memberships in fitness centers to get a free membership and teach classes. The love never faded. After graduating from the University of Louisville, with a degree in Exercise Science, she opened her first location in Frankfort, Ky. Body Perfect by Jackie and Co. then growing into more locations as the owner of Powerhouse gyms. After selling Powerhouse gyms, she went to work in corporate sales and fitness management for Urban Active. Jackie at that point moved on to open Tammcor Fitness with her husband Keith of 18 years. They successfully ran two businesses together however then decided to retire and move to South Florida.

A HEALTHIER CLEAN FOR (F)ALL!
|
|
Who is clean republic?
“If you believe that we can build a healthier, safer, cleaner world, then you are the
Clean Republic. Just like you, our values define us.
They show who we are and drive what we do every day.”
|
|
Clean Republic is a company determined to discover safer, better-for-you alternatives to toxic chemical cleaning solutions on the market that are putting both human health and the environment at risk. In 2018, the Clean Republic team uncovered Hypochlorous Acid (HOC1), an alternative technology to replace the dangerous quaternary ammonium found in traditional cleaners, HOC1 is the infection-fighting compound found in the human white blood cells. Clean republic harnesses the power of HOC1 outside of the human body by running saltwater through an electrolysis process to change the molecular structure of salt and water. Through testing, it was determined that Clean Republic’s HOC1 solution was 80-100 times more powerful than bleach at killing bacteria and viruses.

Managing Guest Expectations
|
|
On Their Best Behavior BY JOSH CORMAN
MANY SPA LEADERS WAITED well more than a year to open their doors to guests with no pandemic-related limitations on occupancy in place. Many spas have been able to do just that in recent months, but some have found it challenging to manage guest expectations at a time when demand for services is exceptionally high and staffing shortages continue to be an issue across the industry. This trend is not limited to the spa industry, with reports from across the hospitality sector of rude—and in some cases, even abusive—behavior toward customer- facing staff. To better understand the impact of this phenomenon on spas, Pulse spoke with three leaders who have sought to support their employees while maintaining a high level of guest service.
“The message that we’ve put out to all the staff is that we have your back. Abuse is never tolerated...and you can walk away from the situation.” - SHANE BIRD

Top 4 Tips to Maximize Immune Function for Covid-19, the Flu, or Anything Else that Comes Your Way
|
|
Health has become a national topic of interest. No longer are we plagued with the basic flu season, now there's Covid-19 and the many variants that follow. The first line of defense should always be the immune system. Some may argue that vaccination is the key, but with everything that has transpired, the strength of your immune system is your responsibility.
Medicine is designed to help the body to decrease the effects of a health challenge, but typically cannot cure. The human body is designed as a finely tuned engine. Our goal is to make sure it has all the nutrients necessary to perform at an optimal level.
The moment we began to eat solid foods, our body began to create the foundation of our own personal health. Every bite since then, has a direct relationship to how the body utilizes nutrients for repair, energy, and overall health.
|
|
Food can awaken the immune system or create an ideal environment for sleep. Creating the right habits throughout the day and week enhance its function and provides the needed strength to perform under any condition.
Keeping the immune system in top performance can be simplified with the right ingredients. Here are my Top 4 Immune Boosting Tips for Success:

Disconnection Caused the Climate Crisis.
Reconnection Will Solve It.
Paul Hawken and friends advance a bold vision of equity and renewal in “Regeneration”
|
|
A singular principle binds together the daunting challenges and correlative solutions advanced by Paul Hawken and his team of researchers, essayists, and scholars in the book Regeneration: connection and reciprocity. Whereas we once lived as other animals do, in concert and conjunction with the natural world, our relationship to that world is now broken—we are extracting, consuming, and polluting the habitats and ecosystems that sustain and nourish us, and in so doing, pushing them to the brink of extinction.
“We live on a dying planet,” Hawken writes in stark, sobering terms that underscore the gravity of the crisis we now face—a crisis for which we are responsible. “Cars, buildings, wars, deforestation, poverty, oil, corruption, coal, industrial agriculture, over consumption, and fracking” are just some of the degenerative ills of modern life that have pushed our planet to the point of no return.
But there is still time to change course, as this inimitable, comprehensive manifesto for climate action makes abundantly clear. The solutions needed to solve it are admittedly vast and complex, but they are all based on the simple framework of connection and reciprocity.
