CAPTAIN'S CORNER

If you haven't already heard, the Wahoo bite has been off the charts so far this year and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. The teams fishing the Winter Wahoo Championship out of Freeport are absolutely crushing them out there, but we've only had a single 61.12 pound Wahoo caught by Jr. Angler Wilton Bull in the HBGFC Yearlong Awards Program Tournament so far. We should still have about another month before the bite slows down so let's get out there and get some numbers on the boards.

THE LEARNING CURVE

As we see more and more of our platforms go away, many of us have discussed (some have already done it) getting together and constructing Fish Aggregation Devices (FADS). I researched FADS 60-80 nm out of the Destin/Pensacola area and the manufacturing process. Construction is set to begin this year. Here's a simple overview:
FAD Project
This past year, we lost the last platform out of Freeport where we used to catch bait while on the way to most of our popular fishing spots. Maybe a FAD or two could possibly replace the platform?
The only thing I know for sure is that we need to start the conversations now, as most of our deepwater platforms are nearing the end of their lives.
