November Beekeeping Tips

In the Hive

The bees are in their winter cluster, and there is little to no egg laying this month.

Equipment

You will want to insulate your hive (we have the Bee Cozy at Let It Bee Inc. )

https://www.letitbeeinc.com/

Be sure to avoid moisture build up in the hive.(we also have Bee Pillows)

Cold is less of a problem for bees than condensation.  Since much of the heat escapes of the top of the hive.

Be sure that any equipement you are storing during the winter that may harbor wax mothx has been frozen and/or is stored carefully.

Yard Maintenance

Consider setting up a wind break around the hives.

Let us know of any questions as you navigate your bee journey in the fall.

Brown County Beekeepers Association

This month's meeting is November 16th at

6:30 PM at The Green Bay Botanical Gardens. Bee related topics.

here will be a short business meeting at 6:30PM followed by "The Products of the Hive" starting at 6:45PM-8:00PM. We will have honey, candles, Meade, skin care products, honey-based candies, and various art items. I would like to extend an invitation to you to share your own products and expertise!

• Are you or do you know of any gardeners that might want to share some information about pollinator planting to support the honeybee population? It might be interesting, for example to share “plant this pollinator instead of this hybrid.”

• Are you an artist or crafter or do you know of any artists or crafters that might want to display their items?

• Do you know of an event planner/baker that might want to share their specialties with honey ingredients?

• Are you a grill master or cook that can share recipes or ideas for sauces or marinades that include honey?

Participants will have an area at our Botanical Gardens meeting room to discuss their product and then have some to sell.

If you have any questions, or ideas that will add to our exposition, please reach out to our event coordinator julianne.sanders@yahoo.com. Julianne would also welcome any help you can offer with organizing this project. We are looking forward to hearing from you and appreciate your time and consideration.
