TeamSmile Continues to Shine!

This Fall has been a great continuation of the Phase II Plus programs for TeamSmile! A total of eleven programs were conducted from the end of July through November serving over 1,200 children in communities throughout the country. With three more programs on the calendar for 2021, TeamSmile will ending the year on a high note with continued support from volunteers and sponsors!

As TeamSmile continues to serve their mission, safety of volunteers and patients remains the top priority. TeamSmile maintains strict guidelines which includes additional Personal Protective Equipment, barriers, and six feet of separation between areas. TeamSmile has developed a Phase II Plus program to conduct emergency dental procedures on site. To learn more about the TeamSmile Phase II Plus program click HERE

Virtual Programs

In 2021, TeamSmile has partnered with the University of Buffalo Dental School and Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry to create and conduct TeamSmile Virtual Oral Health Education Presentations. We are very pleased that these have morphed to the point where we have conducted 10 presentations to a total of 2, 427 children. Additionally, due to the support of Colgate, Purell and DentaQuest, we have distributed packages to each child in advance of our virtual presentations. These packages contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss (Colgate), hand sanitizer (Purell) and an oral health educational booklet. We are thrilled that DentaQuest is sponsoring the TeamSmile Virtual Oral Health Education Presentations.

Volunteer Spotlight

Connie Turnipseed

Connie Turnipseed first learned about TeamSmile through her job with Sun Life Insurance in Kansas City. Initially, she volunteered as a representative of Sun Life, as their insurance company was – and is – the lead sponsor for the TeamSmile program with the Kansas City Royals. In 2018, Connie retired…….yet she has increased her volunteer work with TeamSmile. She volunteers with our programs with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Sporting KC, and now she does additional volunteer work in our office as well.

“I enjoy working with TeamSmile because, having worked for neurologists in the past, I understand how important good oral health is to overall physical health,” says Connie Turnipseed. “TeamSmile's goal is to make sure that underserved children get the dental care that they need and deserve.”

Connie has a heart for helping, and she also volunteers at the Chillicothe Correctional Center, Aqua Viva International, the Folly Theater and she’s also the Board Chair at her Church.

During our Arizona Coyotes program, UPS lost 2 of our 12 boxes. They are still missing yet Dentsply Sirona stepped in and graciously replaced the 12 freedom prophy systems that were in the lost boxes. Without them our hygiene program would have come to a stop as we financially tried to figure out how to replace these critical pieces. Words cannot express the gratitude to Denstply Sirona for being a huge asset to us so we can continue our mission of helping children get access to much needed dental care. We had the systems by the very next program.
