Reminder of the schedule change

As previously communicated, we have eliminated programming on Sunday. Preconferences will occur on Thursday, September 19, and the meeting itself will be held all day Friday and Saturday, September 20 and 21. Attendees should plan to arrive on Wednesday (for preconferences) or Thursday, and leave on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

New record for educational program submissions!

The 2024 Annual Meeting is shaping up to be our biggest ever! As of the February deadline, the FMEC had received 426 program submissions – compared to 267 in 2022 and 320 in 2023. It’s wonderful to have so much interest in presenting at the FMEC. Submissions came from all over the FMEC region, from about 100 unique programs and institutions, with Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey submitting the most. All submissions are in the process of being reviewed by your peers of family physicians in order to build an academically strong and inspiring program. All authors will receive feedback on their submissions that can be used for future growth and improvement. If you submitted a proposal, you will find out if you were accepted, declined, or asked to revise your presentation in May 2024.

ALSO Instructor and POCUS workshops planned for September 19

Once again, the FMEC expects to offer an Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) Instructor Course workshop all day, as well as two Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) workshops in collaboration with the Global Ultrasound Institute (GUSI), on Thursday, September 19. Each year, we hear from people who wanted to attend but didn’t make plans early enough. Mark your calendars and prepare your budgets now! Note that to attend the ALSO Instructor Course, you must have attended an ALSO Course. Use the AAFP ALSO Course website to find one now and attend before September!

Your colleagues may not be getting FMEC emails

Have you ever said “hey, did you see that email from the FMEC?” and get a blank stare from a colleague who you know participates in the FMEC? Here are some steps you can take to make sure the faculty and residents in your department are getting FMEC emails. 1) Ask them to check their spam folders; 2) make sure your IT department is allowing emails with the extension “.fmec.net” to go through; and 3) tell them to contact FMEC to make sure they are actively subscribed. Unfortunately, many faculty and residents in the FMEC region have hit “unsubscribe” on one previous FMEC email, so they no longer get ANY emails from us. We can send those individuals a resubscribe link if they let us know. In order to get a resubscribe link, people should contact Jennifer Stamper at jennifer.stamper@fmec.net
