October 2022 News
Art's-a-Poppin
The Charles Bruce Foundation partnered with two important programs in the month of October. On the 28th, Carlisle Arts Learning Center added a special pop-up exhibit to the last week of Peg Belacastro and Gail Warden Coleman's exhibit. The pop-up entitled, Women's Work, was held along with author J M West who wrote the book Madam Bessie Jones, Her Life and Times. The exhibit celebrated the important contribution of women's work to the foundation of families, society, and the economy - whether paid or unpaid, chosen out of necessity or desire. On the 19th, the Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues at Dickinson College also held an event entitled The Murder of Madam Bessie Jones in Carlisle marking its 50th anniversary. The program featured a panel with J M West, Pat LaMarche, Ron Turo, and Carmen James. To read the full story of the event, you can use the top button to read about the details. If you did not have the good fortune to attend this forum, you can use the button below to see the video taken of the program.
Thanks for Adding Color
The annual Charles Bruce Foundation coloring book is offered free in the Carlisle area at the book store and other local retailers, but it comes at a price. Thankfully, we can acknowledge the generous donations of current sponsors of this year's coloring book, Whistlestop Bookshop, Miss Ruth's Time Bomb, author J M West, Create-a-Palooza, and Unitarian Universalists of Cumberland Valley. If you or anyone you know might also be interested in helping us support artists and gift some little ones a great opportunity for learning and self expression, please contact Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com. Books will be free and available at all retail sponsors. Drop by Whistlestop Bookshop, Create-a-Palooza, or Miss Ruth's Time Bomb to get your copy.
