Pennies for Your Thoughts
What did you do during the politically challenging years 2016 to 2020? Dr. Stephen Kliewer channeled his understanding of Christianity gained from a Master in Divinity degree earned from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctorate of Ministry earned from San Francisco Theological Seminary to thoughtfully reflect in real-time on the events of those days through poetry.

Thanks to all of our donors and supporters, Charles Bruce Foundation released this book of social justice poetry on June 1st. The publication represents a couple of foundation firsts - a book of poetry and an interactive visual web experience via printed QR code. Charles Bruce Foundation board members Cheryl Dunn Bychek and Lani Anacan Breidenstein contributed respectively to editing and proofreading the book, and Max Donnelly did an exceptional job on book design. Even more exciting, Stephen Kliewer isn't taking a dime from this book so that all the proceeds can benefit the foundation and help other Writers, Artists and Musicians! (WAM!). Thank you Stephen! You Can't Ban Homeless Awareness
Who would have guessed that libraries that graciously accepted donations of the first two books in the Priscilla series would suddenly reject the third book, Priscilla and the Bishop's Gambit. What could possibly be controversial in a young adult book about persons experiencing homelessness? Turns out that the depiction of a same-sex couple's marriage in this installment of the series proved too contentious. It is difficult to accept this reasoning, particularly since the couple represented in the book was based on two real women.

In response, Pat LaMarche and Diane Nilan, more lovingly known as the Babes of Wrath, are embarking on a tour of libraries across the US to promote homeless awareness. The tour will begin in Indianapolis, IN, and wind through Chicago, IL; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Billings, MT; Spokane, WA; Paradise, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Albuquerque, NM; then through parts of Kansas. If you know of a library along the route that would welcome this discussion, please contact Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com to make the arrangements.

Closing Out Proud
Brian Maag shares the pride of being a Charles Bruce Foundation live street musician once again for the month of June. Brian played outside of Sanctuary Boutique Store on June 18. We also extend many well-wishes to previous street performer Emmanuel Nsingani as he expands his career in Arizona.

Be on the lookout on the third Saturday of each month throughout the summer for more Charles Bruce Foundation-sponsored live music. Better yet, encourage your favorite business on the square to book a performance outside their establishment by contacting Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com to make the arrangements. You can also see pictures and video snippets of Brian's performance on the Charles Bruce Foundation Facebook page linked below.
