Who would have guessed that libraries that graciously accepted donations of the first two books in the Priscilla series would suddenly reject the third book, Priscilla and the Bishop's Gambit. What could possibly be controversial in a young adult book about persons experiencing homelessness? Turns out that the depiction of a same-sex couple's marriage in this installment of the series proved too contentious. It is difficult to accept this reasoning, particularly since the couple represented in the book was based on two real women.
In response, Pat LaMarche and Diane Nilan, more lovingly known as the Babes of Wrath, are embarking on a tour of libraries across the US to promote homeless awareness. The tour will begin in Indianapolis, IN, and wind through Chicago, IL; Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN; Billings, MT; Spokane, WA; Paradise, CA; Salt Lake City, UT; Albuquerque, NM; then through parts of Kansas. If you know of a library along the route that would welcome this discussion, please contact Pat LaMarche at epicjourney10@gmail.com to make the arrangements.
