July 2023

A Message from the President:

Hello Everyone,

I hope your friends and families are safe from the devastating floods Nova Scotia experienced this month, yet another natural disaster for our communities to face. I hope that we can each lean on each as we move through this.

In AFP news, our board has paused our board meetings for the month of July for a much needed break and we’ll resume our regular meeting schedule in August. For those of you who were able to attend our Maritime Fundraising Conference in June, we are planning to continue the important conversation that was started there as part of the session facilitated by April Howe with P4G. We’re going to continue working with April to continue the conversation and to make our chapter more inclusive, accessible, and equitable. We’ll reach out to our members with updates and opportunities to participate and share your thoughts as we move through this work.

In July, a cohort of AFP Nova Scotia members attended the AFP Canada Leadership Retreat in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. We had the opportunity to connect with leaders across the country, share the work and conversations we’ve been having in our Chapter, and learn from the work of other Chapters. A key action from the retreat was to create more opportunities for Chapters to connect with each other to have open dialogue and share resources.

In August we’ll be having conversations about our plans for the fall and winter, including National Philanthropy Day and education sessions. If you have any thoughts or ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via afpnovascotia@gmail.com. We want to make sure our content is as helpful and relevant as possible, but we can’t do that without your input.

I wish you all a safe and happy summer! We’ll be in touch in August with our next newsletter and exciting plans for the fall.

With sincere thanks,

Whitney Maclean – President, AFP Nova Scotia and the AFP Nova Scotia Board of Directors
