From Rev. Brock Patterson
"Am I In or Out of Season?"
Are we there yet? That’s the question every driver loathes to hear. We often heard that question emitting from the backseat from a high-pitched, sweet, squeaky voice.
Those were the good ‘ol days. Nowadays, I hear, “Are We There Yet?” from adults
who are beginning to suffer withdrawals from sugar, caffeine, tobacco, and everything else. The Season of Lent has begun to take effect as we reach the halfway mark.
The good part of all this work is that some of us have dropped a few pounds. Others of us have saved some money. A few of us are noticing that our complexion is much improved and a couple of us aren’t waking up smelling like the previous evening’s activities anymore. All good stuff, right?
A few good lessons emerge. First, for those who haven’t made a Lenten Commitment this year, there’s still plenty of time to get involved and see some results from the effort. Second, those of us who are involved are already Halfway Home! By the time March 2024, concludes, the Lenten Season will be complete, and we’ll all be happy campers. Lastly, for those who began with the best intentions but have since been unable to succeed, this is your chance to accomplish your goals in the LORD.
The Seasons of Lent, our time of preparation for Easter, always occurs during the darkest months of the year. That’s one reason it gets such a bad rap. Lent, and our Faith, are not intended to bring us down. This Season is intended to build us up, giving us encouragement and assurance in a world that can look dark and dreary. Lent is not about pain and suffering; instead, Lent is about giving ourselves a chance to be successful as we do something helpful in honor of the LORD.
We aren’t there yet, but we’re closer than ever. We’re Halfway Home and God is with us!
God Bless, Brock.
