Congrats to DLA's Nazanin Ghaffari

Department of Landscape Architecture (DLA) Assistant Professor Nazanin Ghaffari was selected to be a participant in the prestigious month-long National Endowment for Humanities and Dumbarton Oaks Summer Institute. Scholars from across the country will come together to "address complex histories of land, labor, and place-making." The focus is closely aligned with the DEISJ strategic priorities of ESF and the DLA.

P-22 Parking Lot Remains Closed

Lot P-22 will be closed through April 19 to accommodate the Bruce Springsteen concert at the JMA Wireless Dome on Thursday, April 18. Alternative parking is available in the Standart Lot West.

Trash Audit Tomorrow

Do you wonder about waste? Join the Office of Sustainability and Oakie's Green Team to dig into campus trash and recycling. Participants will help to weigh/sort trash and recycle to better understand what is thrown away on campus. This information will help us improve our zero waste program. PPE and safety training will be provided!

Girls' Summit

Girls in 5th through 10th grade are invited to a day-long STEAM career exploration program.


Saturday, April 20 | 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. | Gateway Center

$5 registration fee includes lunch


The schedule features:


  • STEAM-based career exploration through hands-on workshops
  • Keynote address by postdoctoral scholar Dr. Autumn Elniski
  • Women in STEAM panel
  • Workshops:

Girls' Summit annually empowers, motivates, educates, and challenges perceptions of girls and women in STEAM fields. The event is inclusive and open to all individuals, regardless of sex, gender, or gender identity.

Girls' Summit is a program of Girls Inc. at the YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County, with support from ESF in the High School, ESF Women's Caucus, TACNY, and Syracuse University's STEP Program.

Poster Display Celebrates Work of Indigenous Women

Indigenous women leaders from across Turtle Island are being celebrated with a poster exhibit on display in the hallway outside the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment on the third floor of Illick Hall through the end of the semester. Stop by to learn about the powerful work being done across the continent.

ISO Judges and Reviewers for Environmental Summit

The ESF in the High School Environmental Summit returns to ESF on June 11!


This event celebrates and showcases the efforts of students who have created research projects centering on environmental science topics in their dual-enrollment classes.


Both oral presentations and posters will be featured — and we're looking for judges and reviewers. This opportunity is open to faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students.


  • Oral presentation judging: 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
  • Poster reviews: noon – 1 p.m.


No experience is required — simply bring a desire to support and encourage our youth in their academic endeavors. A scoring rubric and instructions will be provided to you.


Student work will fall into one of three main categories:



  • Original Research/Design
  • Literature Review
  • Non-Technical Science Communication

ESF Spring Cleaning Week

It's spring cleaning week! Please use the labeled reuse, recycle, and trash bins that to eliminate clutter and keep campus looking top-notch.


Bins will be available in the following locations listed below and checked throughout the day:


  • Bray Hall – First floor Rotunda
  • Illick Hall – Third floor near passenger elevators
  • Marshall Hall – Basement outside room 024
  • Gateway – Second floor near elevator
  • Jahn – Third floor near passenger elevator
  • Baker – Third floor near CNS Help Desk


TIP: Bin signage will help you to properly sort materials. Items accepted include, but are not limited to, paper, soft-cover books, cardboard plastic bottles/containers, glass/metal food containers, beverage bottles, office supplies, and items in good condition fit for reuse.


Staff and faculty are invited to bring select personal (non-state) electronics to campus for recycling from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18. Operations staff will accept computers, monitors, printers, scanners, mice, keyboards, cables, and cell phones at the four-bay garage (near P13). Drive your vehicle up and staff will unload your electronics. We cannot accept TVs, smoke detectors, or light ballasts. 


If you have a large volume of hardcover books or have questions, contact Environmental Health and Safety Services (EHSS) at x6952.

Students: Take the Moon Library Survey

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to take Moon Library’s Spring Space Survey. This is an opportunity for students to provide insight and feedback to inform design for the library’s December 2024 renovations, which will create 24/7 access to Moon's lower level with (proximity card), ADA accessible entryway, restrooms, and creation of a mediation space.
