The Segment of the Champlain Parkway Between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue is Open to All Modes of Traffic in Burlington, VT

Starting TODAY, Tuesday, August 20, the segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue is officially open to all modes of traffic and is intended to remain open permanently. Crews have completed the necessary work required to safely open this segment of the Champlain Parkway. Vehicular and bicycle traffic are now permitted to travel along this open segment of the Champlain Parkway and pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to use the shared-use path along the eastern side of the new roadway. Please note this segment will remain an active work zone until the initial contract is completed in October 2024. Portions of the segment may be temporarily closed or require lane reductions to complete remaining construction activities.

City, State, and Federal Partners at the Grand Opening of the Champlain Parkway

The traffic signals at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue have all been switched from flashing and now operate as fully functioning traffic signals accommodating all movements and phases including the pedestrian crossing phase. The 30-day traffic signal testing period has begun. Throughout the testing period, the traffic signals and overall operations will be monitored, and adjustments will be made to the traffic signal phasing and timing as needed.

The opening of this segment of the Champlain Parkway significantly changes traffic patterns on Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue specifically at their intersection with the Champlain Parkway. These intersections are now fully operational, accommodating northbound and southbound traffic along the Champlain Parkway. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and follow all pavement markings and line striping, roadway signage, and traffic signals.

PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.
