Champlain Parkway Project

WINTER NOTICE:

Winter shutdown for the Champlain Parkway Project continues with major construction activities restricted until spring. Minor construction activities with limited impacts to traffic continue. Regularly scheduled Construction Updates will resume in the spring. 

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Duration

Activities are restricted to Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Clearing Activities

Crews will begin preparatory work along the alignment of the future shared-use path connecting Pine Street and Shelburne Street (U.S. Route 7). This work will take place off the roadway in the area just north of the abandoned section of Interstate 189 or Potash Brook between the Howard Center and Buffalo Wild Wings. Crews may begin installing temporary construction fencing along the project limits as early as tomorrow, Thursday, February 29. Starting Monday, March 4, and continuing into Tuesday, March 5, crews will begin removing vegetation (brush and trees) from within the clearing limits.

Traffic Signal Work

East Coast Signals remains on-site working to install traffic signals at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue and streetlights along the Champlain Parkway. This work will take place predominantly off the roadway, however, there may be some instances of short temporary shoulder or lane closures.

TRAVEL INFORMATION:

All travel surfaces along pre-existing roads, including newly constructed roadways, sidewalks, and shared-use paths on Pine Street, Lakeside Avenue, Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Sears Lane, are open and will continue to be maintained throughout the winter.


Please be advised that the newly constructed segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue has not been completed and is not open for public access. Vehicular traffic along this segment is prohibited. Pedestrian and bicycle access along this portion of the shared-use path is restricted. This area will not be maintained throughout the winter.

PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT: For your safety and the safety of the construction crew and field staff, the Champlain Parkway Project Team reminds the public to steer clear of construction vehicles, heavy machinery, and active construction areas. PROJECT LOCATION:

The Champlain Parkway Project spans a 2.8-mile area from the I-189 intersection with US 7 to Lakeside Avenue, and includes upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. 

The initial contract includes the construction of the Champlain Parkway from Home Avenue to Lakeside Avenue, upgrades to Lakeside Avenue, and improvements to the section of Pine Street between Lakeside Avenue and Kilburn Street.

NEARBY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT ALERT:

Construction vehicles and other equipment will be traveling throughout the South End as part of the Burlington Great Streets: Main Street Project, which began construction earlier this week. A stockpile for this project (where construction materials and equipment are stored) is located on Sears Lane. This project, which is separate from the Champlain Parkway Project, encompasses the portion of Main Street between Battery Street and South Union Street.
