Project Update

Champlain Parkway Project

DATE: Wednesday, February 28, 2024

Winter shutdown for the Champlain Parkway Project continues with major construction activities restricted until spring. Minor construction activities with limited impacts to traffic continue. Regularly scheduled Construction Updates will resume in the spring.

Activities are restricted to Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Clearing Activities

Crews will begin preparatory work along the alignment of the future shared-use path connecting Pine Street and Shelburne Street (U.S. Route 7). This work will take place off the roadway in the area just north of the abandoned section of Interstate 189 or Potash Brook between the Howard Center and Buffalo Wild Wings. Crews may begin installing temporary construction fencing along the project limits as early as tomorrow, Thursday, February 29. Starting Monday, March 4, and continuing into Tuesday, March 5, crews will begin removing vegetation (brush and trees) from within the clearing limits.

Traffic Signal Work

East Coast Signals remains on-site working to install traffic signals at the intersections of the Champlain Parkway at Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue and streetlights along the Champlain Parkway. This work will take place predominantly off the roadway, however, there may be some instances of short temporary shoulder or lane closures.

All travel surfaces along pre-existing roads, including newly constructed roadways, sidewalks, and shared-use paths on Pine Street, Lakeside Avenue, Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, and Sears Lane, are open and will continue to be maintained throughout the winter.

Please be advised that the newly constructed segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue has not been completed and is not open for public access. Vehicular traffic along this segment is prohibited. Pedestrian and bicycle access along this portion of the shared-use path is restricted. This area will not be maintained throughout the winter.
