Early next week, once the necessary work is completed, the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue will be opened to traffic. Once opened to traffic, the segment of the Champlain Parkway between Home Avenue and Lakeside Avenue is intended to remain open. Please note this segment will remain an active work zone until the initial contract is completed in October 2024. Portions of the segment may be temporarily closed or require lane reductions to complete remaining construction activities.
The opening of this segment of the Champlain Parkway will result in significant traffic pattern changes on Home Avenue, Flynn Avenue, Sears Lane, and Lakeside Avenue specifically at their intersection with the Champlain Parkway. These intersections will become fully operational as northbound and southbound traffic along the Champlain Parkway is added. The traffic signals that are currently set to flash will be fully activated to accommodate all movements including the pedestrian crossing phases. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and follow all pavement markings and line striping, roadway signage, and traffic signals. Uniform Traffic Officers (UTOs) will be present during the daytime hours to help direct traffic through the signalized intersections, as needed.
Once the traffic signals are fully operational, the final 30-day traffic signal test period will begin. Throughout the testing period, the traffic signals and overall operations will be monitored, and adjustments will be made to the traffic signal phasing and timing as needed.
A supplemental Traffic Alert will be issued to announce the official opening of the Champlain Parkway to all users.
