Dear CHT Members,

Last week we opened the doors of our office to the public for the first time in 18 months. It felt momentous and gratifying as I know our efforts helped Vermont lead the nation in the Covid-19 response. While this moment allowed us to sigh a breath of relief, we’re far from breathing easy.

Our staff and programs are needed now more than ever. From January to April of 2021 we received 914 applications for 50 available apartments. With the phasing out of the State’s emergency motel housing program, many of our neighbors have lost their shelter. We’re responding by boosting our resident services, supporting access to financial assistance, and securing state and federal funds to get more than 200 new homes under construction now.

Like you, we’re trying to return to some sense of normalcy and to getting together with friends and family. I invite you to join us at a few of our upcoming community building activities like Members Movie Night at Centennial Field, or at the Old North End Community Center to co-create a community mural. I hope to see you, and as always feel free to let me know if you have any thoughts.

Community Paint Day, July 31st
Champlain Housing Trust is collaborating with Juniper Creative Arts to create a new mural on the Old North End Community Center. We're thrilled to work with this Vermont-based Black and Dominican family collective with a mission-driven practice of creating art. We're especially enthusiastic about how Juniper Creative has engaged with the community to co-create the mural titled "Moringa the Medicine Woman." We hope you'll join us to make this mural a reality at the Ramble on Saturday, July 31 from 12:00-3:00pm.

CHT and Juniper Creative Arts are working together to fund this exciting project - Champlain Housing Trust will match every dollar up to $15,000! Please consider making a gift.

Movie Night at Centennial Field
We're excited to be hosting Members Movie Night at Centennial Field on Thursday, August 5th - rain or shine! Join us for a free dinner and a showing of Disney's "Moana"* on the big screen at the ballpark. Doors open at 6:00 and the movie starts at 7:00pm.

Shared Equity Homeownership

Becoming a homeowner is a goal for so many Vermonters, but as home prices continue to rise in our region, fewer and fewer are able to make this goal a reality.

Champlain Housing Trust's internationally recognized Shared Equity Homeownership Program provides a pathway for people to securely put down roots in their community and provides an opportunity to build wealth.

Meet CHT Board Member Helen Head

Helen joined the CHT Board early in 2020 after a long career focused on affordable housing – in legal aid, in shared housing, and in the Vermont House. She’s been a leader in not only South Burlington where she lives, but beyond Chittenden County to have an impact across the State of Vermont.

“This year especially, I’ve seen the value of having a strong community-based organization to jump in and support people impacted by the pandemic,” she says.

“I’m truly thankful for the work of CHT.”
