NEW MEMBERSHIP NETWORKING COMITTEE

NEXT EXECS' SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE

As we approach the end of the 2022 school year, we here at the NextExecs are already planning for 2023. Join us in our 2^nd Annual Backpack & School Supply Drive to benefit MCPS students, grade K-12. From now through August 11^th, we are calling on all our GBCC members and community partners to help ensure our students are prepared for a successful school term when they return in the Fall. Some of our members last year held their own internal school supply drive and had the items delivered to our GBCC office in downtown Bethesda. Others supported the drive financially by donating money via our Chamber’s Venmo account or by sending a check payable to Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce. Please enter #mcpsbackpackdrive23 in the memo line. All levels of support are greatly appreciated, and we will also be calling on volunteers to fill the backpacks and make the drop offs to area schools. Last year we filled over 300 backpacks and this year our goal is to fill at least 500, can we count you to help us reach that goal?

Gen-Z workers may be digital natives, but many find it difficult to work on a desktop computer, use a company copy room, or arrange for a UPS pick-up. Alaina Demopoulos reports that “HP coined the phrase ‘tech shame,’ to define how overwhelmed young people felt using basic office tools.”

In The Guardian article at https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2023/feb/27/gen-z-tech-shame-office-technology-printers, Demopoulos notes that Gen Z’s older colleagues often come to their aid as mentors and trainers.
