“Age-friendly jobs — which involve less physical exertion and more social and communication skills — are on the rise. But older workers don't always benefit.”
Kara Baskin, writing for the MIT Sloan School of Management, reports that “a study by the Urban Institute and ProPublica found that 56% of workers 50 or older were pushed out of longtime jobs before they chose to retire.” Researchers also found that the same jobs that appeal to older workers “also appeal to younger women and college graduates,” who often get those jobs.
Employers must combat ageism head on.
